I know Harrold is offensively gifted, but this guy is simply not physical enough to withstand a full 80 game season without either getting injured or banged up. I wouldn't be apposed to trading Harrold, Cammy and one of our 2round picks come draft day for a mean 6-7 veteran defensemen (when I mean veteran with 3-6 years experience) and a first round draft pick. Other than that our D is weak, we need big hitters. I think it is aceptable to have atleast 1-2 small guys that are offensive minded, but not more than that. Lubo and Preissing are okay for now, but when Hickey is ready to play with the big boys, Preissing better be gone! Id sign Blakey, for 3 years <4 million, we still have Jack Johnson who will fill out and gain more muscle.
As for next year, If we are gonna suck, which wont be a bad idea because it is a deap draft and one with Tavares, then Id like to see a defensive roster with the youngsters.
Blake Hickey
Lubo Johnson
Piskula Priessing
Fast, Harrold, Bagnall, Petiot, Martinez, pick a bitch and throw him in at 7
I mean what do we have to loose, we cant get worse than last place next season!
As I said, it helps, but I realize it doesn't ensure. But I understand your logic too. But you have to admit that adding blue line "prick" type defenseman like Orpik or dare I say, Exelby, would be a nice fit to all the pussies we have now...
I would absolutely love Orpik or Excelby but i think the realistic chances of getting either of them is unfortionatly slim to none.
Jack was surprisingly clean this year. I, for one, don't mind the dirty stuff as long as he's going to back it up.
For the record, Exelby is a very good fighter but he rarely drops the gloves, even when the situation calls for it.
Which, as you know DRD, is EXACTLY what you want out of a d-man like X. Do you really want him spending 5min a night in the box because he fought the George PArros and Jody Shelly's of the world? I dont. but when the bell REALLY is rang for him...he will answer it.
point is, the kid makes sure opposing forward keep their head up, and will go when the situation is right.
I could be completely out of my gourd with this, but I really think Crawford purposefully handcuffs Rattis.
I think it might be that Ivanans is so damn big, maybe the guy doesn't feel right with kicking the crap out of a guy 50lbs lighter. Then again, he tried like hell to get Ott last Saturday to drop the gloves. But that is a classic example of why he doesn't drop the gloves much, no body wants to. Orpik would fill the void that is a 215lb weight class guy who will drop the gloves if need be. And it would be nice to get a Boll-Barnaby type guy as well..

I concur.
And while I am completely onboard with DL's rebuild, it does seem like this regime does this kind of stuff a lot -- gets a guy who is good at "A" and then tell him that he needs to "B".
-Move Boyle from Center to Defense.
-put the cuffs on JMFJ -- pure speculation per LGK.
-put the cuffs on Avery.
-Play Ivanans on a line with Kopitar.
-Play O'Sullivan on the PK and a checking line (which turned out to be a good thing for his game).
What will and should piss us Kings fans off is when this off season's FA signing period comes, if DL doesn't make a move to sign a tough D-man, maybe he should be out as GM when the Kings again come up short. This team will make the playoffs, maybe next year, but even with a Stamkos or Doughty guy, we'll get bounced in the 2nd round because the Kings aren't tough enough to win the 16 games for the cup...

ect. ect. = Armstrong on the 2nd line This IMO is the best post I've read in a long time...

We need a 4th line comprised of 3 North American players who all have a chip on their shoulder.
And we need John Zeiler as far away as possible from said line.

Boyle, an experiment that even Brian has admitted has helped his game tremendously.
JMFJ, well, they basically didnt let him do much offensively all year, smart move IMO.
Avery, who cares. old news, etc.
Rattis, I think that's just to mix it up a bit.
O'Sully, well you can see the results from this now, been huge for the kids game.
