I gave up on these bunch of heartless pukes after NOBODY went after Smyth in the Monday night Colorado game after he had speared LaBarbera putting him on the sidelines.
I miss the McSorley days - heck, I even miss the Kip Brennan days. At least THAT guy would stick up for his mates. Even Lappy would have scrapped.
I wish Dean Lombardi would come on KT again - I'd ask him why he signed so many heartless players.
CBGB,
I totally forgot about the Smyth incident which really drives home the point. I mean he almost broke Labarbera's ribs and not one King did a thing. You do that to the Rangers goalie and you'll have Avery,Hollweg,Orr,Strudwick,Shanahan etc.... after you the whole game and part of the next one. We really need to pick up someone at the trade deadline or in free agency who's a real prick to play against and has heart. I haven't scanned the free agency pool yet but someone like a Andy Sutton. This team has enough skill now and in the pipeline but it has no balls at all.
I'm reading a great book I picked up off of Amazon called The Code by Ross Bernstein with a forward by Marty McSorley and Tony Twist. It's a great read so far as it really delves into the unwritten rules on fighting and more importantly retaliation for stuff like Phaneuf did last night. I mean that was such a blatant action of disrespect toward not just Aubin but the King team as a whole. People are saying that there wasn't time to do anything and I disagree. You had a stoppage and play and Crawford could have put Ivanans out there not to fight as with all the suspensions it's not worth it but to just rough up whoever he was next too. Give them a facewash or anything that shows the team as a whole is pissed off. I mean go back if you tivo'd the game and outside of Thornton look at the other 4 players who were on the ice at the time, they did NOTHING. I'm not saying I expect Frolov and O'Sullivan to turn into Probert and Kocur but think of the respect either one would have today if they just said F it and went after Phaneuf. What's gonna go through Labarbera's or Aubin's mind the next big scrum in front of the net? I guarantee you the first think they'll think about is how to protect themselves since nobody else on the Kings will and that's a joke.
Not to pat my own back but I said it best when I said the Kings arent doing the things that are Hockey 101 in the over 30 beer leagues; Of which not f'ing with the goalie is pretty much rule #1.

Hip, I totally agree with you! I play in a BALL HOCKEY league on weekends and even in that league if you mess with the goalie you've got the whole team in your face. I just think that Phaneuf's blatant sign of disrespect really speaks volumes about this team's psychy and how other teams view us. To have Phaneuf stand in front of our bench and basically talk **** about what he's just done was the most frustrating thing I've seen in a long time. It's not just the actions of Phaneuf and Sarich but the lack of a reaction from the players on the ice at the time. How much respect do you think Frolov or O'Sullivan would have today if they would have gotten in either Phaneuf's or Sarich's face and at the least got in their ear saying don't do that or else? Now I'm not saying I expect our scorers to fight but I bet that's why Armstrong is so well liked in the locker room as he was the only one to stick up for Handzus. In the Sarich case, it was an accidental high stick but still the problem to me was on the surface anyway that I didn't see one King ON the ice go up to him and say watch your stick ahole or something to that effect. So the problem festers into the next game now as Phaneuf and Sarich will play with reckless abandon along with the rest of the Flames without fear of any retaliation fighting or not from the very passive Kings.
