Tonight was my 1st pre-season game this year thanks to free tix from Hammond -- not much to say that hasn't been said, but DOUGHTY stood out like a sore thumb. It's amazing to think that he's an 18 year-old defenseman and see how poised & confident he is out there, and the nice little dekes he makes to hang onto the puck... the way he carries himself actually reminds me of Kopitar and I wish they would have put him in the shootouts tonight since they were going with rookies.
Also as someone else said, the penalty on Kopi was ridiculous and everyone in the building knew it. His stick was being held and the ref actually came over and seemed to apologize to him shortly before the penalty ran out.
Simmonds' fights were pretty weak -- not much happened in the first one and he lost the 2nd one decisively... but at least he's game. Westgarth owned whoever it was that he fought.
Loktionov didn't look too good... had a beautiful opportunity to shoot the puck and made a pointless pass to someone right behind him... definite lack of balls.
Speaking of which, Boyle needs to work harder out there... way too complacent for a rookie trying to make the NHL. I hope he can make a transformation like Sully did, sans the contract issues.
Moulson's goal was a really nice backhand move right in front of the net that took power & poise. |
