How about the penalty minutes this year? Does any one player (besides 41) have numbers that compare to Avery's shortened season? And with the Kings doing so poorly on PK, wouldnt they be EVEN WORSE with Avery on the team?
He's part of the equation though. He singlehandedly threw Kovalchuk off his game last year in the playoffs. the rangers record this year WITH Sean in the line-up is 18-9-3 and without him 9-10-3.
I also think that the rep Sean had when he was here led to a lot of his PIM. He got called for a lot of things that would usually slide. Over there, he still takes his share but not for stuff like unsportsmanlike conduct for spraying ice on the goalie.
As for Gomez and Drury, I think personally that Gomez was the better acquisition for the team. They both took time in finding their groove this season but comparing last year's stats, Gomez is well on his way to exceeding last year's points. He only needs 8 in the next 18 games to match. He also leads the team. Not that Drury is chump change or anything.
Granted they also have Lundqvist. Anyways...I'm done now.
The Rangers are 18-9-3 with Avery in their lineup and 9-13-3 when he is not. Gomez, Drury, Jagr, Shanny aside, he brings something to that team that is obvious in their win/loss stats.
Who the hell is Elliot Smith? Seriously, I have no clue.
What's the story with Brown hating Avery? I've heard a few random references to it recently, and that's the first I've heard of any trouble between them (although I probably would have hated Avery too, if I'd had to share a locker-room with him).
Sean is a throwback to Original 6 hockey. The league needs more guys that play like him. He really hated the Ducks and their broadcasting crew. He is a a true fan favorite in NY.
But I'd like to see the Kings take it him tonight.
I completely forgot that Avery played for the Kings. The Kings certainly do not miss him. Ranger fans can think just like a bunch of duped Kings fans that Avery was some kind of special but there are still many players out there that bring to the table what Avery does without all of the drama.
At last check we have more points this season than we did last season at this same point.
Just sayin.
Also this team is much more fun to watch than what we had.
Labarbera >Cloutier....... That is why we have more points....... he stole a few games and that is something Cloutier hasn't even done in Manchester this season.
Not because Avery is gone. Just barely more points at that. The fact that the team has a similar record with a large improvement by the number 1 goalie should say something to.
The team is better in certain aspects and worse in others.
Avery hardly deserves that much credit in either direction. I personally liked watching him on this team no matter what season it was.
