30. Los Angeles Kings (21-30-3, Previous: 30) – Injured defenseman Rob Blake was named captain at the start of the season, and there's question whether he'll actually finish the year as a King. He'd have to waive a no-trade clause to be moved, but either way it might be time, at least at the outset of next season, to turn the captaincy over to Dustin Brown. He recently signed a long-term deal and he exhibits a hard work ethic not only on a nightly basis but from shift to shift.
It would come as a shock to me and a lot of other Kings fans if Brown was not named the captain of the Kings after Blake's departure. I am not very familiar with his vocal leadership in the dressing room, but he does definitely lead by example. It would be a great thing for the younger players on the team.
Well, I'd rather go a bit slower with Brown (A first), BUT...who else would be fit for that role? LUbo? No. Handzus? Not so sure about this one. Kopitar? Sam as with Brown, A first, then let's see. Cammy? No. Frolov? No. Thornton? Gone. Sully? Same as the 2 above...
We HAVE captain material players, but they are a bit too young...I know Crosby and all that "youngest captain ever" thing, but Crosby is Crosby.
Blake has played well as of late...atleast up until his injury. If he goes (which I don't mind cause it is in the best interest of the franchise) I'd be willing to bet Visnovsky gets it. I'm sick of seeing a defenseman wear the C. I am all for giving it to Brown or Kopitar. If the Kings really want to make a statement and commit to winning with the young core we have now then show it...give it to one of the young guys we are building around!
