In all honesty, I don't think anyone expects Kopitar, Fro, or Vis to ever add a physical dimension to their game. Very few players have that type of scoring capability and grit (Iginla being a fantastic exception to that). But I honestly think that once they got a taste of it, Brown, Johnson, and all 190 lbs of O'Sullivan would start playing a grittier game.
That being said, there is a glaring weakness of third/fourth line guys on this team to actually play with grit and get in another player's face without necessarily taking stupid penalties. Even Ivanans doesn't really fit that role because I don't think he skates or hits well enough to be that guy. He'll drop the gloves and that's about it. I'm talking about guys like Tootoo, Carcillo, Hollweg, and Orr. Guys who play with their heart on their sleeve and their balls to the walls. I hope Simmonds develops into something like that, but really, who else do we have in the pipeline that you can point to and say that about? |
WOW. since im too lazy to go find the "perfect 10" icon, would it be gay of me to say that i think i....
i couldnt agree more. and it saddens me to think that Dustin has to play 2 roles on the team (one of our, if not the, top phyiscal player on our team and top offensive player as well) when some guys arent even playing 1 (handzus, armstrong, calder, preissing). those guys would bring nothing to the table during playoff hockey IMO, leaving a guy like brown, sully, or jack to have to pick up the slack.
