Tuesday Night's game against the Oilers got me thinking about Pay Per View games and the Kings. How long until the Kings consider this format? I'm pretty sure they are not making a lot of cash w/ the FSN broadcast, in fact I bet they could be losing money. Do you think they would try and fleece their 'loyal' fan base and sell marque games?
The PPV is ridiculous. PPVs are for events like Boxing, Wrestling, Movies... not hockey.
It's probably just a Canada thing, since they love hockey so much. I really wonder how many people subscribe to that though. Just look at the prices for the following teams:
Oilers PPV: $12.95 per game - $139.95 (14 games)
Flames PPV: $12.95 per game.
Canucks PPV: $12.95 per game.
Leafs PPV: Anywhere from $1.99-$9.99 per month (Different cable providers)
Senators PPV: $10.95 + tax per game.
Canadiens: No PPV option.
The Flames also have games showing in theaters.
Flames Theater Prices: Admission for children ages 3-12 is $8.95 + tax and general admission is $10.95 + tax. New this year, guests can also purchase tickets to any three games for $31.20 + tax or any five games for $49.25 + tax.
Unless an American team has this ridiculous feature, then I don't think it'll happen to the Kings at all. If teams in America such as the Rangers, Sabres, Red Wings, Stars, and Avs get this... then the Kings might look into it.
Besides, if it's any sport that will get into the whole PPV crap... it'll probably be football or baseball first. If it's a sport here in Los Angeles, then I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers did this. But thank goodness none of the teams do that here.

If they aren't attracting eyeballs when the games are 'given away' bundled in the cost of basic cable, I don't see who would be buying them on PPV.
The Kings would have to do some serious winning over an extended period of time to make home game tickets (a) really expensive & (b) really hard to get, before PPV becomes more than a pipedream for Phil & Ed.
Wouldn't work. PPV takes advantage of the people that can't go to Vegas for a big fight. Local hockey would have to be HIGH in demand before they charge people for watching at home. This will never happen to national sports.
I wouldn't spend the money for ppv, I already spend money on getting Center Ice every season, and why would I do that when Center Ice shows games that are ppv.
I get stuck having to pay for the pay per views for both the Calgary and Edmonton Games, because of blackouts on Centre Ice. I only pay for the Kings games if I can't make it to them.
I can tell you it sucks, the only advantage is there is no commercials.
If I have to pay $13 to watch a hockey game on TV I want to see players like Avery Mic'd up and uncensored. Then it may be worth the money.
I dunno about their FSN deal, but don't they buy their radio air time and then make some of it back through the in-game ads? I could see where THAT loses money.
