Well, I missed the first 10 minutes and the rest of the game the Kings were just trying to play catch up. They were 1 - 2 steps behind all game long.
But not a totally bad showing either. They only gave up one good goal (JLB looked embarassingly bad on the 2nd goal and on the 3rd apparently Stuart doesn't know he is allowed to PHYSICALLY check a player with the puck... go ahead, you can push him out of the way, like you really really mean it).
What stood out for me in spite of the low score is that the Kings really didn't get ONE good high quality scoring chance (of the 50 min I saw). That's gotta be one of the easiest shutouts I've ever seen. Osgood wasn't even tested.

Dustin Brown had Osgood beat on a great move but he hit the post. Also Frolov had a deflection in front of Osgood during a Kings PP that very well could have gone in, so there were a couple legitimate chances that the Kings had to score.
The fact that the Kings held Detroit to 27 SOG and 0-3 on PP is a sign that this team CAN play team defense when need be.
This was easily the most physical game the Kings defense has played all season. Blake and Stuart combined for 9-10 heavy hits on Red Wings forwards.
Handzus had his best all-around game as a King last night. He was using his size well, he was using his linemates well and he looked nasty at times.
It's about belief for the Kings. In the first ten minutes they believed they could beat the Red Wings. Then the first goal goes in (which i think was saveable if Barbs hadn't tried to do too much on the play. he could have just slid over and got as big as possible instead contorting sideways to try and save it with his glove) and the Kings lose that belief. They are just a fragile team with no belief in themselves or each other. It's a shame, really.
I was watching the Wings hurting on the Kings as well as Osgood in net and thought to myself...."Jesus Christ are we back in 1997??"
And I still have never bought into the idea of having "no heart". They were trying, they did have chances, funny as it is, Detroit with Osgood and Hasek is one of the best teams in the league... If "no heart" is the case then the Kings franchise as a whole has never had a heart outside of 1993 and 2001....
