What is the point of Montoya when you have already signed Bryzgalov to a multi year. Basically it is Lundquist all over again for Montoya.
Montoya will back Bryzgalov next season, and when Ilya's contract is over in three years, they'll see where Montoya is at that point. as it stands, he's a good and very promising netminder with no NHL experience... and he certainly wasn't going to get it in New York.
Montoya is a restricted free agent next season... something tells me that he will be elsewhere in three years.
If Phoenix was looking for a bargaining chip, then they may have got one... otherwise they got a back up goalie.
