Don't be surprised if Lou Lamoriello joins the Kings' auction of Rob Blake or perhaps grabs Brad Stuart to bolster his
I doubt he'd go after Blake...just seems like too much to give up for the Devils. Stuart though, that's a possibility. Probably wouldn't cost them more than a 2nd rounder. They really don't have much in the way of prospects to give up (aside from Bergfors who I don't see them trading).
Devils wouldn't trade Zajac for a rental. He's starting to come on lately (6 goals/2 assists in 9 games this month) now that they put Parise back on his wing.
It wouldn't shock me if the Devils traded Bergfors, as he's quickly becoming our version of Lauri Tukonen. One thought I had was Johnny Oduya, Matt Halischuk, and a 2009 first rounder for Blake. Oduya is a great skater, decently physical, but has below average offensive skills. Bottom pairing defenseman, but a decent one at that. Halischuk scored the gold medal winning goal at the WJC this year, and has been a point per gamer in the OHL this season and last. At the pro level, he projects to be more like a good 3rd liner/PK specialist. After years of enjoying John Madden and Jay Pandolfo, I'm actually very high on a guy like Halischuk taking over that role if he's still around.
Unfortunately the Devils don't have a good prospect pool. So I'm sure somebody like Ottawa could easily trump that offer.
Bergfors and Tukonen seem to cancel out value wise. I'd imagine the Devils would send the Kings back an NHL defenseman as we're already carrying 8 at the moment w/o Blake. Stuart for Halischuk and a pick seems more than reasonable.
I think Ottawa is probably the best target for the Kings right now. Team truly on the cusp that has its top guys pretty much locked up with a few decent prospects.
Wouldn't be surprised if Lombardi is familiar with Josh Hennessey as the Sharks drafted him in 2003 right after DL was let go. The Sharks braintrust traded up for him which is usually more prompted by the head scout than the GM.
And naturally I dump on Oduya and he seemingly gets possessed by Scott Niedermayer and had a goal + 3 assists in the Devils' win.
Bro, what's the story on Oduya-do, like for realsies?
i'm sure you've noticed that several of several Devils fans on HF include him in any trade scenario they come up with, seemingly not able to get rid of him fast enough, and they always seem to get back a pretty resounding 'no thanks' in response...
why?
i haven't seen him play really at all this year. but last season i watched him plenty and thought he was pretty damn good.
The fans liked him early last season since he basically came out of nowhere to make the team. He was playing primo minutes with Paul Martin for the first half of the season. We were all hoping his offense would come around, but it never did. Then late in the year, it just seemed like he hit a wall--maybe just wasn't used to the 82 game NHL schedule coming from Sweden. Devils called up Andy Greene (who probably would have been on the team earlier if not for our cap issues) who essentially took Oduya's spot late in the season + playoffs.
A bit of a slow start again this year, but I think that could be said for the entire team aside from Zach Parise. So I think that's why a lot of fans were ready to deal him. But overall, he's played pretty well for a third pairing type of guy. And for some reason (myself included) we seem to give Andy Greene a pass when we're quick to criticize Oduya.
That and the Devils are carrying 8 D at the moment, so any trade proposal inherently involves a defenseman heading out. Oduya was just that guy that was potentially expendable but might have some trade value unlike somebody like Sheldon Brookbank.
If DL's request for Blake is an NHL player, a good prospect, and a 1st round pick.....Oduya would fill in the template as th
