It makes no sense to trade O'Sully for Lehtonen UNLESS LaBarbera (or Ersberg) were dealt for a prospect defenseman (Thrashers are thin on D as it is) -
Dean can always sign one of the many UFA forwards as a \"filler\" and have a pretty remarkable class of D-men for the future:
This is a bit what I'm seeing as I'm looking at the Atlanta D. They have a few guys I wouldn't mind having but we would more than likely need to get a good pick or two out of atlanta which we would then want to flip for a decent defensemen.
However, it is worth noting, Lehtonen has a 3m cap hit for next year and moving JLB(.85m) and PO doesn't necessarily put us under the floor, but I think we'd end up a lot closer. It still shouldn't be a problem though because I still think we end up with Schneider.
I do think that a trade like this has the potential to make us a better team next season and possibly into the future.
aw yes, the guy that almost everyone wanted to be dealt.

Lehtonen? Ersberg is of the same caliber, so no thanks....

Same caliber? I'm not sold on Lehtonen being some sort of savior, but he's definitely of a higher caliber. Ersberg is older than Lehtonen and has a whooping 14 NHL games under his belt with 6 wins. Lehtonen has 158 games with 75 wins. I'll be surprised if Ersberg plays in 75 NHL games, much less wins that many.
Cammalleri became expendable when he went down with his injury and the Kings didn't miss a beat offensively. Plus the emergence of O'Sullivan and with Boyle, Purcell and Moulson being ready to play in the NHL, also made Cammalleri expendable.

Lehtonen has a ton of potential to be an elite goaltender, BUT he is injury prone. Given our stockpile of young talent in goal it would be pretty counterproductive to make a deal like this right now IMO.
If you make that deal, what does it say about Bernier?
It says you aren't going to rush him before he's ready. I wouldn't have a problem with a Lehtonen/Bernier tandem. That way Bernier doesn't have to have the pressure of starting 60+ games. If the time comes where Bernier emerges as the #1 guy, you can trade Lehtonen.

And hopefully it becomes something like Nabokov/Toskala splitting time and we can the lesser of the two to Toronto for a first (perpetually top 15).
this trade on paper sounds good, but kari is just too injury prone it won't be worth it for the Kings in the long run

i actually really like lethonen, and think that if he had a decent d-core in front of him he could easily win 40 games. a tandem of lethonen and bernier would prob. be the best in the league.
however, i dont know who would step up and take sully's spot. i really dont know if anyone could. The kid is a bonafide sniper, who kills penalties like a beast, and im pretty sure he has a kings logo tattooed on his butt too.
the only way i make a move like this is if we get valabik or enstrom coming along with lethonen.
hockeyleaks is a pretty terrible site though, so there's really no reason to get worked up over this.

Since DL has taken over he's had to sign 2 core players to contracts, and he's gotten one locked up to one of the best deals in the league, that being Brown. He's working on O'Sullivan. So which core player(s) has he dealt away?
Ugh... let's start with a guy named Cammarelli . Or even Sean Avery could have been a core player. And what I am talking about here is what I see happening if they don't change their perceived stances on re-signing players. How much have we heard that Kopitar is in the rumour mill for being traded. If there is any foundation to that rumour I would bet alot that it was because the Kings were going to be too cheap to give Kopitar the money he would undoubtedly be seeking. Do I know this? no... but I think it's not going out on a limb considering some of Lombardi's comments over the past year and the handling of the Cammarelli situation.

It's just that, a RUMOR that got started on a message board. There was never any foundation at all to it. I mean look at the crap that was coming back in the rumored deal.
The Cammalleri situation was was one brought on by Mike himself. He wanted waaaay too much after one good season (sounds familiar) and after the arbitration hearing, we all knew his days as a King were done.
