About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. We have all been anxiously awaiting the trade deadline, which is apparently going to net us nothing...

Blake - Looks like he won't be waiving his no trade clause.
Stuart - According to the Modry article, we want to keep him/re-sign him (not a bad move IMO)
Camm - Probably won't get any value for him if you trade him now, Dean is likely to wait til next season
That leaves...
Nagy - Between injuries and lackluster play, what is he going to get us, if anything?
Thornton, Willsie - Future considerations if anything?
Armstrong - Too "valuable" to the team on and off the ice, wouldn't bring in enough of a return anyway most likely
If anything is coming our way this trade deadline it will be in the form of low draft picks and low-grade prospects.
Our only hope at this point would be an off season acquisition. I really hope we can bring someone one board that can light a fire under this team though. This is the point of the season that will project what next season will start like and I feel we are not quite where we should be yet. We have some great young talent but that will only take us so far.
Deano needs to do something like he did by bringing Thornton to SJ.

Amazing that Lombardi gets credit for things he never does. He wasn't the GM when this happened. He didn't draft Kiprusoff, Nabakov, or Toskola either.
Blake saying he wants to stay does not equal Blake Staying.
Let's not read too much into this. He was asked about a trade and he said he WANTS to stay here and go another 3-5 years. That by no means says he will stay. What was he supposed to say?
Let it pan out with out hitting a panic button. Remember last season when the Norstrom trade went down. It was a last minute deal that caught a lot of folks off guard.

I agree.
Not to mention staying in LA for 3-5 years doesn't necessarily exclude a rental for the remainer of this season, with DL picking him back up at a discount (hopefully) this summer...
I'm pretty confident he isn't just sitting on his hands this week and we'll see some moves as the deadline gets closer.

Here's a question: How would people feel if DL and Blake made a sort of handshake agreement that in return for Blake waiving his NTC, DL would give him a bit of an overpayment in the summer?

Depends on how much of an overpayment it is, to me... I'm not at all an expert on how contracts/salary caps work, but if it gets in the way of any contract extensions for our younger players or prevents us from making a signing that would benefit the team, I wouldn't be happy. If it just uses up a little extra room under the cap, isn't for an extended amount of time, and brings us some kind of useful return at this deadline then yeah, why not?
