About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Yes, I love my boys, but I don't see any playoffs in our future this year. Hey, can anyone tell me what time the Kings practice on Tuesday?
The Kings are 7-4-0 in their last 11 games. Just supposing this is a current trend in their play, they have 33 games remaining currently having only 40 points in 49 games, playing at this same rate of 7 wins and 4 losses every 11 game set, we would end up with only 14 x 3= 42 + 40 (existing points) = 82 points.
82 points will not be enough to make the playoffs, unforunately. We put ourselves way too far behind the 8 ball in November and December and now we need to play at a 9-2-0 clip for each 11 game set in order to make the playoffs. That would get us 54 out of a possible 66 points and we would still finish the 82 game season with only 94 points. Now at 100 points I think we could guarantee a playoff spot. We would need to go 30-3-0 in our last 33 to make the playoffs, I guess we coul go something like 28-1-4 as well.
With these latest figures in mind, I really don't want the Kings to lose, but I don't want them to win more than I don't want them to loose. If we have to actually suffer for a season or three and can draft some studs, then I can wait.

Why do you people want to get in the playoffs when there's so much more waiting for us if we keep playing like we are. If we pull up some kids, give them experience, draft some people - in a year or two we will be playing so much better. You want to go into playoffs and get smashed? Get nothing from the draft, have our kids still inexperienced, have our core group of guys feel worse about themselves then they already do?

Sigh.
I disagree with this. Getting the first pick in the draft year in and year out should not be our goal. Look at the Caps. Ovechkin is an outright stud and yet they are still light years from winning a cup. The Kings need to play to win. And they need to play to make the playoffs. Whether it's the 8 hole, the 7 hole, the whatever hole.
We will get better as a team when we start playing like winners. We should care about the result of every game, every season, and stop thinking that one player from a trade or the draft is suddenly going to transform us overnight.
