It's hard to believe that Manchester uses the same system that the big club does. They seem to be defense first, as the Kings are pretty "run and gun". They didn't look to be taking ANY chances, and that may have been the reason they had very few good scoring chances the whole game. The first two periods Manchester played a pretty solid defensive game really limiting Providence's opportunities. All in all, it was pretty frusturating watching Manchester continously collapse the neutral zone, and not establish any sort of offensive puck possession. Personally, I just don't think they have enough scoring punch on the team.
Jonathan Bernier:
The first two periods he wasn't facing much. Manchester came out sluggish for the first half of the third period, and Bernier was facing his first real challenges, making about 6 or 7 big saves. His scouting reports always talk about him being a "big game" goalie, and he really demonstrated it, especially by robbing Providence's big scorer Pascal Pelletier's point blank wrist shot in overtime. Bernier had 34 saves.
Drew Bagnall:
Everytime I watch Manchester, this guy seems to be the most stable. He's a pretty physical defenseman who was throwing the body and looked to be the best d man tonight aside from Peter Harrold.
Marc Andre Cliche:
I see this guy having a real tough time generating any offense at the NHL level. This was our main return for Sean Avery, which is a trade I thought we absolutely could've got more in return in. Another pure defensive minded forward? He had a point blank chance in overtime on a cross ice pass from Peter Harrold, and looked to have a case of tunnel vision as he held on giving Tuuka Rask time to get across his crease, then shot it right into his chest for an easy save.
Matt Ryan:
He's the type of player that may be let walk, but he does alot of little things. As far as a one on one player defensively, he just doesn't get beat. Good face off guy, very fast skater, and is another purely defensive Manchester forward. I've always liked this guy as far as a 3rd or 4th line call up, or a PK replacement. He won a Monarchs award for "Unsung Hero", so I can't be too far off my rocker.
Jeff Likens:
Jeff Likened to take a couple poor penalties, and get caught out of position several times this game. Seen him a few times, and he hasn't really done anything to impress me. Josh Kidd, or Joe Ryan no question should replace him next year.
Davis Drewiske:
First time I've watched this guy play, and he looked very solid; even jumped up into the play a few times and looked to have some potential to generate offense. Brian Boyle said "He's been a rock back there", as he was the guest on the telecast.
Teddy Purcell:
His offensive production in Manchester really caught my attention and I started watching him a little closer when he got called up, then sent back down. He's going to need to stop shying away from contact if he really wants to start making a difference in big games. He looked a little soft to me, and in a more physical, aggressive atmosphere, it glared. Providence was face to face with him everytime he touched the puck, and for the most part, kept him irrelevant. He had one assist, and was a -3.
David Meckler:
I like this guy. I followed him a little when he was with the London Knights in the OHL, and established himself as a fast, goal scoring winger that despite his size, goes into the corners and battles with reckless abandon. I'll never forget seeing him go into the corner with Jack Johnson at the Dev. camp, and actually outmuscle Johnson. He's a pitbull with scoring potential, a very significant player, especially in physical games.
Wow does B2 give it to you or what? $7.00 to watch the game on quality that I think Helen Keller would've been upset with.

Manchester really needed this one as IF Boston is eliminated tomorrow night, the word is that they'll send Sobotka, Nokalainen, Krejci, and possibly Kessel to Providence to help the Wanna B's in the postseason.

Bruins just had to draw the Habs, didn't they?
Only hope is that those guys come down and play like they couldn't care less, which isn't rare in the AHL.
Piskula i thought looked very solid. He reminds me of a young uninjured Miller. He looked the most solid in the d zone to me, nothing fancy but no mistakes.

Worst friggin' draw they could have asked for. We actually played pretty well against the rest of the Eastern Conference playoff teams. They're playing their asses off, but they can't finish. Doesn't help that we've got 70 goals sitting in the press box, either.
Manchester was on the PP when he got the assist. So, it shouldn't count toward his +/-.

I know it's been MANY years since I took any math, but the WORST that computes to is a -2.
That is correct, you can only get a statistical plus when you are ES (even strength) or on the PK (short handed killing a penalty). And vice versa, you can only get a statistical minus when you are ES or on the PP (man advantage power play).
