Matthew Kredell got laid off today amidst poor business in the newspaper industry.
I've criticized him here several times over the past season, but I did notice that he was consistently improving in his reporting, and I really appreciated his commitment to the team. I'm sad to see him go.
The only good that can come of this is hopefully Rich comes back and does more awesome reporting, but I'm sure he's still busy with all his other responsibilities.
Good luck Matt!
mod: can you change the title to say " Matt Kredell of "Inside the Kings" Got Laid Off! "
for some reason, "got let go" looks weird...

That sucks big time. Matt did an excellent job with the massive interviews (when the Kings are in L.A.)
I wish him nothing but the best. I'll be honest though... who reads the Daily News? If I am to look at a newspaper, I'll be reading the L.A. Times or Pasadena Star News. Sucks though, that there are cut backs. Hopefully Rich has some spare time to give exclusive Kings interviews/quotes, but we'll have to wait and see.
Obviously though, both of these gentlemen have been great for us Kings fans with the outstanding coverage. I applaud them both.

I have to admit, I liked Rich better than I liked Kredell even though his reporting was improving lately, but I will miss the guy a little and am sorry he had to go. Bad timing too just a day after he was being criticized by some fans for infusing his personal opinions in his coverage on the blog (which is what a blog is for but whatever). You know some dorks on there will be calling this as him being canned for his comments against Crawford and some team decisions.
But reading dailynews.com it is self-evident that these are hard times on the paper industry. It's tough to see this happen, but thankfully we have Rich to take over the blog. Lets hope it stays up for a long time.

That's unfortunate. While I didn't appreciate his style nearly as much as Rich's, any way you slice it, him being laid off is not a good thing for us getting regular news from the blog.

Exactly. I was going to edit my post to mention it but was too lazy until I saw you say it and had to follow up. For a writer, Kredell used a lot of shortcuts on his blog. Always writing in the most brief of ways and it did not feel as professional. I mean its a blog, and we are not looking for writing like in the actual paper but Rich has always come off as more polished and his coverage consisted of more depth and analysis. Kredell was great with interviews, but at the start he added very little to his coverage, often consisting of fragmented sentences and updates like "Kings win 5-4 updates from locker room to come." While it seems everytime Rich touches a keyboard we get a couple paragraphs of nice descriptive updates.
But with Kredell we would just get "Blake scores. Kings 4-1." then the next one is like "Kings lose 5-4. Updates from locker room to come" and then we just get the exact quotes plastered and that was it. Though, to his credit, he was getting a lot better at it lately. But what happened to the other like 4 goals in between updates? I liked how Rich updated more often, and always added more depth and polish to his writing even when it is on a blog. Also, because he updated more, it added more talking points for people trying to comment on the blog to talk about specific goals, hits, or plays when they are all so nicely divided.

yeah I thought this past week he did pretty good, although I've never minded his coverage anyway.
well in case Rich doesn't work out as well as we would hope does anyone know if other beat writers come close to this coverage? the best I know is the Kings blog on the kings website
