He plays just under 13 minutes a game.
He doesn't kill penalties and he's 11th on the team in Power Play minutes per game. 12th if you count Boyle.
Oh yea... and for what it's worth he's a plus 2.
it always amazes me that people on this site whine about losing and how bad this team needs to change its ways. A winning team has two scoring lines, that is a fact. We have a guy on our second unit that has no business being there and that has cost this team points in the standings. Our defense is the weakest link true, but in order for the Kings to get over the hump and become a elite team, you shore up the D and you get SKILLED guys on the top two lines. Army's game would be much more suited on the 3rd line and I believe would be a great assest for us there. Not seeing Moulson, Purcell or Boyle on the second unit right now is stupid. What, next year will be another learning year for these guys when they could be going through that now. Just don't get DL's thinking on this???

A) I don't whine about losing. I have repeatedly said that I'm fine with the losing provided the games are entertaining and it appears that the team is progressing.
B) On the Kings Armstrong is 6th in scoring amongst forwards. On some other teams Armstrong would rank : 5th on the Ducks
6th on the Bruins
6th on the Flames
7th on the Hurricanes
7th on the Avalanche
6th on the Wild
6th on the Canadiens
7th on the Rangers
7th on the Senators
6th on the Penguins
5th on Vancouver 5th on the Sharks
C) How do you define "second unit"? Crawford has been slammed all season long for shuffling lines and at the moment Armstrong is 7th in Even Strength Time On Ice Per Game amongst forwards regularly in the lineup, 8th in Power Play Minutes and he plays virtually no penalty killing minutes. He has played on every line but the top line and yet he's STILL 6th in scoring amongst forwards. Higher than Calder, Nagy (yes injuries play a part there) and Handzus... all three of whom play more minutes per game.
D) The D was horrible early in the season. Blake and Stuart waited until it was far too late to start playing well, Visnovsky and Preissing have been disappointing and Modry was traded. In addition the Kings have played SIX goalies this season. Armstrong may not be "highly skilled" but he's hardly a "defensive liability" and his flexibility in the lineup is beneficial to a young building team with injuries.
E) Armstrong is not a "defensive forward". If you want him on the third line to play a shut down role that's not his game. If you want him on the third line because you think that he's amongst the 6th - 9th talented forwards on the team... then the minutes he's getting are commensurate with your estimation of his skill level.
F) Moulson, Purcell and Boyle have more important things to do right now. Manchester is trying to qualify for the AHL playoffs. They're 4 points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand on the 4th place Falcons. Boyle and Purcell are in their first seasons as professionals and Moulson got a good long look in the NHL this season. I expect to see all three of them seriously contend for a spot on the Kings roster next season... but they (and therefore the Kings) are better served with them getting big minutes in Manchester right now.
If people want to bemoan the offensive shortcomigns of the Kings... point out the Nagy injury, the Frolov and Cammalleri injuries and the fact that Calder and Handzus have been almost invisible in the offensive zone all season long. The Kings have seen a bevy of young forwards called up and shuffled around this season. Armstrong provides stability, dependability and veteran leadership. He's not a great player by any stretch of the imagination. He's also not the cause of the Kings woes.
