I'd rather see the shootout as a part of the skills event rather than as a determiner of games. Although the shootout is exciting, hockey is a team sport and the outcome of the game is better when it is determined by the team, not just the goalie or, conversely, a shooter. I was happy to hear Manny Legace express that opinion when he was asked about the shootout at the all-star event. I wonder how many of the goalies like ending up with the sole responsibility for a win or loss after their team has played a good game. In my opinion, it so many think that a tie is not good enough and forced this change.

Unless they go to a 4 on 4 that goes on until one team scores, I don't see another way. 3 on 3 is a bigger joke than the shootout for determining a game. I know they don't like the idea of a game going on for 5 or 6 periods but I think 4 on 4 could keep that from happening. Wait..

Guess I'm alone on this one (again) I'm with Marcel on this. The ASG are a complete bust. The Skill compitition used to be a lot of fun to watch. They messed around with that and made it a complete mess. The showboatng on the shootout was irritating as all hell.

I'm with you buddy, the ASG is garbage and that clown Bettman should have been gone ages ago. I dont know how the players can do it but they have to get rid of him. Its all sucks because of him.

You are never alone Taz! He's right it was a farce, and needs to be changed back to the way it was.
im guessing the shootout idea is someone trying to create a hockey version of the slam dunk contest....which isnt a bad idea...except...theres a goalie.
Also didnt think either the players or the tenders knew what they were expected to do...Until Ovechkin started trying a little more crazy stuff ... in fact...i'll admit to this day... was the idea to score or to do some crazy maneuver?
I mean ovechkin got 9's or whatever from teh judges for whiffing on his two creative attemtps... maybe you MUST score in order for the judges scores to count...i dunno...
seems like its a good idea...but nobody thought it thru...obviously the all star goalies arent going to let the players score on em...
