What happens after that? Momentum changes and the Blackhawks open one of the biggest 4 minute cans of whopass I have ever seen.
On the brightside I don't think Chicago really has to bother going after a Kings star player. Unless they feel like it late in the game. It really is just up to them.
Furthermore, you take DB off the ice for 7 minutes or ~ 12 shifts (4 or 5 that he would have been on) and two things happen: 1) our top TWO lines are shuffled, which is bad for maintaining flow/momentum/possession and 2) nobody on Chicago is nearly as worried about taking a hit, so they're going to take that extra split second to look around and make another pass to generate a scoring chance.
I gotta say that DB's dropping the gloves to defend directly led to 4 Chicago goals, while if he'd just taken 2 for charging and had that cancel out 2 for roughing or unsportsmanlike on Chicago, we'd NEVER HAVE SEEN THAT FLURRY. You all would have called DB a pussy, but the Kings wouldn't have given up the bootie for four straight minutes.
So...those of you that would rather see DB sitting on his ass for the extra 5m so that you don't have to listen to fans on messageboards call your favorite King a pussy...well...you're idiots, still.
Yes it was me that called. I thought I would ask the people that are paid to analyze the team rather than a forum.
My post originally was not exactly about Brown fighting. It is more about the fact that Brown is the leader in hits in the NHL. I understand that he is a clean hitter and respect that about him but people will get upset about big hits whether clean or not. Today was an example of that. He made the hit and there was a retaliation. It's bound to happen now and then and personally I think Brown should be ready to step up to the plate when something like that happens.
I'm sorry, despite what you intended your point to be in your original post:
One thing that got me angry though was the fact that Brown laid someone out and ran away from the conflict.
Brown is at the point where he needs to fill his roll and be able to stand up to the repercussions that result from his hits.
Everyone else is that jackass on the school yard who talks big but won't act.
Perhaps you don't recall because you were drunk and angry, but the crux of your post revolved around Brown not dropping the gloves, period. While you touched briefly on the issue of retaliation, the statements above clearly hit on the fact that Brown does not fight. In retrospect, your original point may have been intended differently, but it looks dumb to keep saying "you guys are missing my original point," when the fact that you were calling Brown out for not standing up and dropping the gloves WAS your point.

Agreed on all counts.
I still do not like the hit on Toews, and still think that leaving his feet like that is an un-Brown-like thing to do, but the aftermath of that probably cost us the game last night.

Perhaps being drunk and angry prevented me from wording the original post accurately but I thought it was pretty clear what I meant. I even posted the video on the second page to show the moment that made me post this thread. Even the quotes you posted don't stray far from my point.
During the Phoenix game, DB drilled someone whose teammate went after Brown. Instead of Brown stepping up to his actions, he just riled up Phoenix. Again, leading the league in hits is going to have consequences. I just think Brown should be ready for them.
