We're not talking about Phaneuf taking a whack at a goalie at the end of the game while winning and then skating for cover behind the linesman to avoid getting his spleen ripped out and eaten by Thornton; we're talking about a TOP LINE FORWARD forechecking and doing exactly what he does best.

If you're on the ice against Brown and you're not ready to take a hit, you're either an idiot or coached by a pussy or both.

If you're losing by any margin at any point in any game and you're not forechecking and trying to get on the board to get your team back in it, you're either an idiot or coached by a pussy.

If you're a TOP LINE FORWARD and there are five minutes left in the game and you're trying to score some goals and get back into the game, you're most certainly not going to drop the gloves and take the rest of regulation off because you have to defend yourself for being a hitter. But if you can draw a 2-minute unsportsmanlike out of the opponent, now your shift is a success.

Wasn't it just this year that the Kings scored five goals in five minutes?

I know the original post was prefaced with "I'm drunk and angry," but wow, this...this is a new low for this board.

Maybe, if the puck was going the other way, you could make a case for Brown to drop the gloves.

Really? Considering you just said Brown just cleans up the garbage goals, how exactly did he touch the puck to get those easy assists if he's just standing around in front of the net?

Guess you've missed some of those nice one-on-one moves Brown has been showing off lately!
It's nice to see there are a couple of people who visited this thread that actually watched the entire game.

I lost track of the number of non-calls the refs had last night on dirty **** Phoenix was doing. Elbows high into their checks, falling to the ice on purpose to sweep the King's puck carriers off their feet on breakaways, blatant slashes...all went uncalled by the blind refs last night. When your team is getting their asses handed to them and the refs are turning a blind eye, what else do you do as a leader besides step up your physical game??

Props to Brown. The guy isn't even close to a Zeiler or an Avery and you goofs know it.

Brown is not a fighter and that is not going to change. A top line forward on pace for career highs and people still find something to complain about. Brown running around in that video is as fired up as I've seen him in a while--he was still livid over the non-call when he got his stick chopped in half a few minutes prior.

And lastly, nobody on this board is in the dressing room with these guys. For all you know Crow would rip Brown if he dropped the gloves, particularly at that point in the game. And since JMFJ had no problem dropping the gloves last season there's a good chance Crow has told him he doesn't want to see any of that stuff. One thing you do know is that Brown is not a fighter and probably never will be. Maybe just be happy with an emerging power forward who crushes people with clean hits.

Absolutely. MC >> this board in knowing that young guys don't learn how to play the game by sitting and watching from the box.

I commented on that exact thing sitting in the seat last night. I could plainly see how upset Brown was (you could hear him, too, since the place was so damned quiet). That's as irritated as I've ever seen him, and I don't recall him EVER giving a ref the kind of earful he gave the ref last night.

I heard that Brown drives a 'lifted' pickup truck with a 'badboy' sticker on the back of it.

If that doesn't indicate how tough he is, I don't know what does.

We have a coach who is under the microscope for sending guys out there to srart fights and a GM who isn't known for building teams who strike fear into anyone, what do you guys expect.

Honestly I'm amazed we actually signed Ivanans to a 2 year extension.

Wow. One of the worst threads in a while.

Let's get this straight, there's 5:00 left in the game and you want Brown to spend it in the box? Really?

The way I see it, there should have been a cross checking penalty or a slash called against the Yotes. If I'm a smart player like Brown, leading the team in penalties drawn, I make a clean hit, let the guy retaliate against me and hope that O'Halloran isn't such a putz that he doesn't miss making an obvious call like he did, so my team can go on the PP. But I don't drop them and take the second best player on the team off the ice for the final five.

That's a smart play by Brown, and a good example.

If this is the first or second period, maybe you have a point. But at this stage of the game, it's ridiculous.

Absolutely. And seriously, tough as Brown may be, he's going to get his ass kicked if he drops with Boynton. Kid played it exactly right. Boynton is pretty high up there on the Stupid Penalty/Overall Dumb**** Meter, but taking our most effective player out of the game for the last 5 minutes and giving him an ass kicking in the process would have been the best thing he could've done for his team at that point.

That shift that Brown was throwing hits at anything that moved was literally the only portion of last night's game where we had Phoenix back on their heels for any length of time. What would dropping the gloves have accomplished? Salvaging some team pride? Give me a ****ing break... Our team was pathetic last night.

For all the bitching and moaning about lack of heart/effort, we're going to dump on the one guy who was quite evidently pissed off and willing to crash some bodies because of it?

I guess, since Brown's obviously not going to be a fighter, he should just start phasing the hitting out of his game.

You guys are missing the point of this post and I'm not surprised. If you were at the game last night, Brown irritated Phoenix and they were taking runs at players like Frolov and Sully. I know they can take hits but you don't leave your team out to dry. If you want to be the top hitter in the league there will be some people that won't take kindly to it. Is he always going to run away from conflict? He is going to get a teammate hurt one day. You can't keep poking the lions at the zoo and not expect to get your hand bitten eventually.

Come on. 4 - 0 and you think having Brown in the box would have hurt the team that much? It's not like he was offensive force last night. It's sad to see that the resident Duck's fan on this board knows more about hockey then most of the King's fans that post here.
