Even if the Kings finished dead last Im sure they still would have lost the lottery...its the Kings way. I actually think theyve got a better chance of winning the thing in the 2nd or 3rd position quite frankly. Weve been kicked in the nuts enough times to realize that finishing dead last in a horrific season would never end with a silver lining.
Case in point.....
The Year was 1995. The Kings missed the playoffs and finished with the 7th or8th place in the lottery. They win the lottery only to choose the 3rd ranked player who was Aki Berg. The player taken 7th overall.....was Shane Doan. Taken not too shortly after that was....Mclaren, Giguerre, Iginla, Mckee, Sykora, Nabakov etc etc etc.
So when it comes to old adages we simply need to make some minor changes to make it applicable to the Kings.
Every Cloud has a silver lining will know be known as Behind Every Cloud is another Cloud thats darker and more ominous then the cloud before it.
Or we can go with the old Monty Python philosophy...
Life is Short, Life is ****, and soon it will end.

Using your analogy I think it's more likely the Kings will get a better player if they end up PICKING 2nd or 3rd. Believe it or not when the Kings got screwed in the 2005 draft lottery dropping down to 11th I felt the same way...and look what happened.
And just think of LGK whine and cry if the Kings end up at #1, take Stamkos and he ends up being a bust. It's happened before and will likely happen again....
Aki Berg got a really bad shake. Mainly when drafted the Kings had no developmental system at all and the team was horrible. Had he been given a season or two in the minor leagues to work on his game and get some guidance Aki would have been a great NHL player. Classic case of bringing in a player when he wasnt close to being ready and really stunting his development. Had Aki been drafted last year and sent to Manchester for instance he would be a higher rated prospect then Thomas Hickey.
