I understand Lombardi came into a bad situation. The Kings weren't exactly flourishing under Dave Taylor -- but at least they had some decent signings and made a push for the playoffs. I think a rash of unlucky injuries really devestated the Kings under Taylor as GM.
So fast forward to the Lombardi Era -- excuse me but I just threw up in my mouth a little. Okay, moving on... under Lombardi what happens? They sign Crawford -- a guy who couldn't get the talented Canucks going. Apparently there was some buddy thing going on if they thought Crawford was a better coach than Andy Murray -- hindsight is 20/20 too.
So what does this dynamic duo accomplish? Only the most ridiculous and unfounded spending of NHL dollars in recent memory. Seriously -- if this were a big media sport, it would be talked about ad nauseum how blatently stupid our franchise has been with signings and contracts (THANK GOD WE ONLY HAVE 1 YR WITH NAGY AND HANDZUS!) Add Cloutier to the mix and you have a trifecta of nausiating cap loss with almost nothing in return. Handzus was a gamble sure, and sometimes you take risk. But Nagy has never matched his potential on any team, RED LIGHT. And Cloutier who was good a lifetime ago, is mentally done. Don't you think someone like Crawford who was close with Cloutier would have known this? Don't you know when someone has "lost it"? If not, then you are blind.
One of these guys has to go -- Lombardi or Crawford? The players will disappear on their own. But the management needs to actually get fired!
As a Los Angeles native and hockey nut, I am sickening by this team. The wasted talent game in and game out makes me want to move to O.C. where at least they know how to build a winner and spend money appropriately.
Oh and btw, the comment about Bryzgalov not being a team player as to the reason for the Kings not wanted to make a deal is out the window too.
Bryz has given the Coyotes 51 Game Starts this year: 25 wins, 2.38 GAA, .921 SV%. Btw those totals are way better than all of the Kings goalies combined. Grats Lombardi!
