I know for a fact that the main concourse entrance near Chick Hearn and Fig (behind the Gretz statue) there are separate doors for regular ticket holders and those for VIP (suites and premier). Both entrances lead to different areas. In fact the VIP entrance has an escaltor and an elevator when you walk in and you have no choice but to go up.
OK, what doors are we talking about here?
'Cause as rubo mentions, there's the special VIP entrance between the Fox Sports Grill and the Team LA store on 11th and Fig.
Then there's the entrance by the Convention Center on Fig where the tear drops/ alien pods / orange seeds metal sculptures are.
Then there's the entrance on Chick Hearn/11th across from the Nokia by the underground parking near the double escalator.
I used to work in public relations, so I may be able to shed some light on the best approach you can take in terms of eliciting change when you write your letter.
First, make it constructive. Take the approach of "I want to make a suggestion to help your company run better." If you just rant and rave, then to them you're nothing but a crank and they will reflexively blame you for the incident.
Second, it sounds like you were less flapped by what they did than the way they did it. If the woman at the door had been polite and apologetic, chances are you wouldn't have been upset. But she was rude and acted like a United Airlines ticket agent. Make sure they know this.
Finally, aim at the top. Don't send your letter to some public relations flack who will sit back and just yawn you off. Address your letter to Philip Anschutz. Of course he won't read it, but someone in his inner circle will and at some point they'll pass along to him the fact that there are some very unhappy customers in Los Angeles. And while you're writing him, mention that it's hard enough to justify paying this kind of money for tickets when the team is this inexcusably awful; to have bad hockey topped by bad service at Staples Center is intolerable.
That would be fine... but those things need to be installed like NOW!!
NO ****. at least have the decency to make it flat on the top of the urinal!!!
I've got a worse story though...I was up in a buddy's suite for the Maple Leafs Game and I went to the bathroom (needed a stall on this trip). I open one of the stall doors and there, in all of its glory, was a $10 beer cup filled about 3/4 way up with feces, sitting next to the toilet.

That's not true. Go around the escalators and through a door where you'll walk through an unmarked hallway and come out a set of double doors on the lower concourse right next to Team LA.
I dont have a dog in this fight...but geez...how do you say no to an 80 year old lady trying to get in out of the cold and watch the kings...sheesh...even if my boss had said.."NOBODY GETS IN WITHOUT A VALET PASS" id have let you two in...
My mom would have smacked me twice for refusing entry to a little old lady.
No offense but people are people whether they are 2 or 93. The rules are the rules and the person at the door was given specific orders and followed them. The rules may eb screwed up but that for her to judge she is to enforce them adn she did.
MY OPINION you seem to think you're entitled to using that entrance because mom is old or becuae your seats are right there AND you're
season ticket holders. Pay the higher pirce use the entrance, problem solved.

I don't think that I am entitled to anything, but perhaps you need to read the full post before judging that is how I feel. First of all, I do pay the higher price as a season ticket holder. I pay $5,000 a year for 2 seats and $20 a game for parking. My inquiry today to the Staples center reveals that Valet parking is $50, and you do not have to be a season ticket holder to go through that entrance. Therefore who is paying the higher price. There are no "rules" at the Staples center, the "rules" are what are particurlarly popular at the moment, and customer service is the issue. And you're damn right, when an elderly person is the issue, there are accomodations to be made, and I think walking in a door significantly closer to their seat when it harms no one is a priviledge someone over 80 deserves, sorry you disagree.
And use spell check if you are going to chastise someone.
