It seems that unless the player is a star, he gets no love around here, even though he is perfectly adequate at what he does. (See Modry, Jaroslav). I'm sick and tired of "I hate ____ " posts just because the guys in question don't have first line/first pairing talent.
Armstrong isan NHL-caliber player. He would play on the 3rd or 4th line with a good team and get 0 PP time. With the Kings he does more than that because the Kings suck and have 3rd/4th liners playing on the second line. There is a reason the Kings are in last place - they don't have enough good players. Duh!
Army can't go out shopping for more talent, or I'm pretty sure he would. He's a plugger who's playing more than he should. By all reports he's a great locker room guy and I for one am always happy to see a guy who has paid his dues playing in the NHL.
Don't make me post a tearful YouTube video.

so anybody who is a nice guy gets to be a NHL'er, on a 2nd line no less and not get criticized for only having 29 points with the caliber players he is lined up with????? I'm not buying it... Boyle, while here proved that he could far and away be a better center than Armstrong. Boyle being in Manchester with Purcell and Moulson is why we are in last place. Sure glad Guiliano is on the 4th line where Army should be and the before mentioned players are still being groomed in the AHL>>>
I'm with you. I love Army-- always have, always will. If he'd been traded, I'd understood but didn't want it. However, I've been a faithful defender of his for quite a while now.
I know people are sick of hearing about "character guys." But sports is lacking in character. I'll take Army any day of the week.

ETA: Hell, my first avatar was his Norelco ad.
All Army lovers have to realize that true it is not his fault that he is a 2nd liner on the Kings (MC's decision). But he has to produce and produce he hasn't. I would love Army to be our PK guy and 3rd/4th line center, but if he continues next season as the 2nd line center I'll be sick. The future is all we here about from our franchise. The future can be now if Crow will trust the kids to do no worst and be better for it next season.. I just don't want next year to be the year for the learning curve when this season is already in the crapper.... I do agree with how classy and team oriented the man is....

Well see now this is why I was hoping for something more at the deadline... LIKE A CENTER (not a defensemen... I knew there wasn't much out there that would work for us defensively). I had one specific center in mind that maybe would've come if Blake had... oh shut up Susan... forget it.

Some facts about Armstrong and the role he plays on the Kings....
Armstrong plays an average of 12:53 minutes per game.
That places him 10th on the list of forwards on the Kings.
11:07 of that is played at Even Strength (8th)
0:05 of that is played on the penalty kill (12th)
1:40 of that is played on the Power Play (9th)
He is NOT a "defensive" forward the way a Pahlsson, Brind'Amour, Draper, Madden or Lehtinen.
He's got more points than Calder and a better plus minus than any other forward.
He's good for between 35 & 45 points a season on a team that doesn't need any offensive help.
Complaining about Derek Armstrong on the Kings is like complaining about the paint job on the Titanic.
