Box defense is not a thing of the past. Just about every team uses a box of some sort at some time during the season it's a matter of weather it is a passive box or a point pressure box.

Technically speaking that's true. If the box defense LOOKS like a box though, that means there isn't any aggression defensively. That means you have 4 guys standing around doing nothing.

I disagree. Although there are always moments when they retreat into the box, good PK teams use a triangle with alternating forwards pressuring the point men or alternating d'men pressuring the corners. Only piss poor defensive teams teams rely solely on the box.
