That's BS. The players are just blackmailing Slovenian Hockey federation as they have been doing before. They will be there, all of them.
The reason for the problems is the Federation which always promises nice rewards and never pays anything.
But like you said, the problem is on both sides, first the Federation, which promises big rewards every time the team is successful and then the players, that are bit***** and moaning because they want 55 euros of daily allowance.
F*** both the Federation and the players. It should be an honor to play for the national team, not just another way to get some some cash in your pocket... They're all pros, most of them earn good money and now they won't play in the WC against the best teams in the world because they want more money? Please...
If you don't wanna play, then just don't play. Say you won't play for the national team anymore and that's it!
(I'm just happy Kopitar said a few days ago that he doesn't care if gets the money or not, because he just wants to play in the WC)
It's embarrassing, they're quarreling over 500 euro. Geeze.
What does it say about the players that they're willing to jeopardize appearing at a World Championship at the very home of the sport (which is definitely the highest level of competition 99% of them will ever see) for 500 euro? To most of them this is chump change anyway. A good performance at the WC could transform into a major signing for a good European club or even a shot at the NHL and they're willing to risk all that over peanuts? I'm speechless. THEY should be paying to be on the team.
Not that the federation is blameless (they're idiots), but this is just crazy.

I have to agree with you. They want 55 euros per day instead of 15. That's embarrassing. If they really stay at home, they lose all my respect. Just put us in D group and play with our U20 team.
Edit: No, actually my numbers are not correct. The difference per player is 640 euros. I only hope, that if most of the players refuse to go to Canada, Kopitar also stays at home and rests before the next season. I don't want him to see embarrassed with any other players called up as replacements. They couldn't stay in Group A, anyway, and he is too valuable for my future sport enjoyment, in Slovenian or Kings jersey.

It's sad really, Slovenian hockey probably had it's best year so far. Kopitar had a great season, both Jesenice and Olimpija did pretty well in the Austrian league and I thought to myself: Great, now we just have to do well in the WC and this will really be a great season.
And now this crap...which should have been expected, given the track record of problems when it comes to our national team.

I think that even if that happens he might go anyway. The day after he arrived back to Slovenia he already practiced, this kid is gotta be obsessed with hockey or something. So he'll probably go whatever happens, even if he has to play with a bunch of 12 year old kids.
Now the players made a deal with the Federation; if they stay in the elite division, they'll get 3.140 euros per player (1.000 for making the team, 1.140 in daily allowance + 1.000 euros if they stay in the elite group). But this is just a verbal agreement, they're still waiting for the contracts.
Captain Marcel Rodman said that the players don't even know if they're insured
They'll have a meeting with the president of the Federation in the evening and they should leave for Slovakia on Thursday.

ok, I just can't believe this either. I think there is no other country which pay their players just to play some games in WC. I could believe this, if this is case for russians or some bigger hockey countries, but slovenia?!! but i'm sure, if your "stars" won't play there is always younger and more hungry players who want to play. And Kopitar will play. 100% sure of that.
What makes this stupid is that, this is not the first time when smaller hockey countries are this kind of problems.. I remember that latvia thing one year (players doesn't like that coach back then, or something , and some players didn't played) and there is also been probelms in switzerland (also headcoach vs players) and belarussia, ukraina etc.....
Why these countries fight for money or had some problems like i said above.. They have more important things to think about (in my mind) on the ice. thx. shame on you slovenias.
btw my english sucks

Actually, there have been some articles with that subject. If I remember correctly, there is only one country that doesn't pay their players (forgot which one). Even Canadians are paying for every day their players spend with the national team (training + Championships). Sweden, Finland, Russia, USA, they all pay the same. The only difference is, that we hear stories from countries where national associations DON'T pay what they promised. Slovenia, ex-USSR,... You don't hear this from Canada, because they always pay and nobody complains.

okay, sorry about that last post, (I was really tired) but yeah, at least they get bonus money. And yes you're right about this one, we don't hear this talk in our country or these bigger hockey countries. Could that one country be Norway. And second thing is, I'm not so familiar this politic side of hockey. But still, its stupid to arguing of money when you have chance to represent your country in champinoships, don't play then. I'm sure they get paid well in regular season by their clubs. no money no funny
