I loved the way Kopitar came to the rescure right behind brown after that blatant knee from an OTT player. - O'sullivan -- the last couple of games against OTTAWA and MONTREAL he has really showed that he's not gonna take no sh*** from nobody.
He is becoming a bit meaner and I hope he continues to become more physical as with this aspect of the game he will only excel.
Did you notice this? Do ya think he is becoming more physical this year??
From my vantage point at the MTL game, I thought i saw Kopitar throwing punches in a goal line dog pile in the 1st period...he looked like he was playing with some fire. It was the play that Komisarek picked up a roughing penalty.
I also saw Kopitar bang his stick on the ground at one point with some passion. I am DOWN for that.
Now alot of comparisons are lame but I really like this one. It suggest that Anze needs to be meaner(Although pims are not the only indicter of agressive play) and at the same time shows how he is on pace to have better offensive output than Joe. the question is: would playing tough take away from his offensive game? Would he be in the box too much? Is he capible but toughness just isn't his role?

i saw all those things also and found it somewhat uncharacteristic of his play, it was interesting and i liked it.
The punches looked like they were out of frustration from being pulled down into the dog pile...
I just think that if he starts to play with grit and fire, his defensive ability will sky rocket.
We have all seen what he can do in the offensive zone, and he is a GOD amongst men...but that strikes me as skill play, not heart/passion/character play. But in the defensive zone, he tends to lapse a little. He is in the right place at the right time (again, attributed to skill), however if he was throwing his body around or playing with the passion...it would be AMAZING.
Komisarek pissed him off and If he wouldnt have 2points at the end of the game I would say, they stoped our best scorer by playing with his nerves. When he plays best there is no way he goes to the box, he did some questionable checks back, kind of eye for an eye thing but thats not his style.
Kopi is disciplined, that IS his style. It was a phisical game and it was an example of how you play against a team that lacks grit. Sure u can order Ivanans to kick someones ass but your top lines still get raped. Did anione count how many times Fro fell to the ground? Even third line had problems.
Bottom line Kopi is big but he is skill player, if he has to do checks they better be clean, alltho he sometimes looks like he is triing not to hit ppl too hard. Anivay I dont like to see him frustrated. There is alot things to think about without looking for ppl for payback.
I think Kopitar sticking up for himself is great. We saw this from Anze at the end of last season too. His hitting started to pick up toward the end of the season. I don't think he needs to hit like Brown or fight like Lappy but the occasional hit or fight to stick up for himself only add to his all around greatness. It'd be great for the team to know that Kopi has their back. Like the Drury fight from last night, it can only build team unity.
Wether or not anyone could find it as proof to believe me. I'll reiterate what I said last year, here.
Anze Kopitar has the potential to be the most dominant player in any game, hands down. It is just a matter of when will he start to play with the physical edge he needs to bring in order to really set himself a part from everyone else. I'm thinking an obviously less nasty version of Lindros (big body that can manhandle the opposition) with the skilled play of Foresberg (top player in the world, amazing goal scorer and passer). And when I said this last year I said I can't wait for three years from now when he keeps getting knocked over and pushed around and he finally gets sick of it, which he is starting to and will. He will get mean, the question is will he become comfortable playing that style of game ? Because if you try to tell me he hasn't gotten more physical and meaner in just 2 years of play, your a ****ing idiot. So, give the kid a couple more years to develop a mean streak. How old was deadmarsh when he really started to play with that fire and passion ? Sure you can say he always played like that, but I don't really believe it. I think Brown will play with that same fire passion and drive once he gets a couple tastes of the playoffs and learns what it takes to win at that level. So yeah, when Anze wants to he will become more dominant than Joe Thorton and possibly any player in the league (besides maybe ovechkin, that kid is just something else). So yeah, theres my predictions...someone planning on being here for the next few years should write them down so I can look like a bad ass when they happen. anyways flame away I wont read or respond so dont worry. just had to put my 2 cents out there.
