I would love to see an archive of the LGK message board when he was drafted.

I do not remember, was there a lot of the "WTF!" going on?

I do remember that the season prior to his rookie year there was a lot of the "He doesn't take the body enough" comments and then the "We should offer Kopitar/??? for whatever player was the darling that season."

Most people were ecstatic, since the lowest anyone had Kopitar going was 6th to Columbus. I was in HF chat at the time, and people were flooding the room with "WTF" and "LOL" comments after Montreal took Carey Price and San Jose traded UP to grab Setoguchi. Ottawa and Vancouver fans screamed in anguish as Ottawa took Brian Lee and Vancouver took Bourdon, as they thought for SURE Kopitar would be grabbed by them if he was still available.

Thanks for this. I love to hear recounts of drafts.

I searched the hfboards...

From May 2006:

"Kopitar/Frolov/1st for Malkin/Orpik"

"As a fan I can be patient with my team rebuilding if you have that core young talent to build on. We don't have that."

"Best Case- Sundin? Worst Case Jason Allison?"

"Ryan Suter for Anze Kopitar and a pick."
"You don't think the Kings would go for that kind of deal (Suter for Kopitar)? I do."
"I would definately do the Kopitar for Suter deal."

"To LA: Gaborik
To MIN: Frolov, Tukonen, 1st round pick in 2006 #11"
"Frolov, Tukonen, Kopitar would be a better fit!"

This thread is legendary just as a whole:
Please rank these prospects - HFBoards
My favorite posts from that thread are two ducks having a conversation:
" Quoted: "O'Sullivan
Semin
Kessel
Schremp
Bernier
Radulov
Pouliot
Grigorenko
Staal
Kopitar
Ryan"

"Kopitar>Ryan?

LOL"

Bobby Ryan, bitchez!

Then there is some Canucks fan being really happy, because they chose Boudon over Kopitar.

"Kopitar and Zagrapan have a little more bust potential, but both could be great players."

"Hockeysfuture has Grebeshkov as their #1 prospect, and I'd put Tambellini over both of those guys (Tukonen and Kopitar)"

I don't even dare to search for older posts.
