On Wednesday afternoon I got to sit down with several members of the LA Kings brain trust, including Luc Robitaille, Mike Altieri, Chris McGowan and Kelly Cheeseman, who unveiled some of the Kings plans for the upcoming off-season and beyond, mostly concerning season seat holders.
The meeting took place in the new LA Kings offices at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo, which are spreading even further with more new construction since my last visit. The new offices were necessary because the Kings now have their own staff, who live and breathe Kings hockey 24/7 instead of being a part of the AEG conglomerate and having to divide their time between the Kings, Galaxy and other corporate entities. Luc oversees everything concerning the Kings business, and seeing happy-go-"Lucky" Luc being very serious when talking about the team was refreshing.
So here's some of what I managed to scrawl down . . .
First off, when your season ticket renewal packet arrives around May 12th, many will notice a price rise of 5.66% "blended", which means that some seats will be above that and some below. There are also new prices for certain sections on the end where the Kings shoot twice. Some seats have actually been lowered in price like the "Die Hards", which will be $11 and the last five rows between the red lines in the 300's ($18).
The Kings are going to unveil a new "alternate" jersey in November, which after a little arm-twisting, Luc described as incorporating elements of all of the Kings jerseys, "except the ugly one". Season seat holders will receive a free alternate jersey, and those who pay by July 15th will get one autographed by their choice of Brown, Kopitar or JMFJ.
Season seat holders should keep an eye on their mailboxes in the coming weeks for:
A postcard from Anze Kopitar with a "KingsVision Highlights" DVD.
A postcard from Dustin Brown with an invitation to the LA Kings Draft Party on June 20th at the Nokia Theater (across from Staples).
A postcard from Jack Johnson with another DVD.
There will be two season seat holder roundtables at Toyota Training Center with "someone from Hockey Operations" (possibly Dean Lombardi), on May 20th from 8-10PM and on May 31st from 9-11AM.
Select-a-Seat will be on June 27-28, where you can go to Staples Center and see what seats are available for purchase or upgrade.
The Kings will unveil a season seat holder web site with exclusive content and a chance to ask questions directly staff, broadcasters and alumni. The site will also feature video content, photo galleries, ticket management and more. Most of the content will be available to all Kings fans, with season seat holders having special priviledges like being able to ask the questions.
The Kings have hired a new advertising group, Adrenaline Agency, who are coming up with this year's publicity campaign. Past slogans have included "Kings Rule", Play Hard" etc. Everyone seemed excited about this agency from Denver so hopefully they will come up with something cool.
I think that covers everything, I'll let you know if I can think of anything else.
Here are the Season Seat Prices:
