The Kings ended their season just as they have done every year since 2002: with disappointment and without a spot in the playoffs. For that six-year drought to end, several things will have to break the Kings’ way next season.
It's a good, in-depth recap...

Not surprisingly for a young team, the Kings pretty much had the outcome of their games determined by the end of the second period. The Kings had a 22-2 record in games in which they led after two periods, compared to a 5-35-3 record in games in which they trailed after two periods. Those numbers are a reflection of a young team that was able to play with confidence with the lead but perhaps didn’t have the experience needed to overcome late game deficits. The Kings also had a 10-19 record in one-goal games, another statistic that reflects their team youth.
I was surprised to find out that the Kings had this many one goal games considering the swiss cheese defense.

how do those leading-after-2/trailing-after-2 stats compare to the rest of the league? and, does 10-19 parse out shootouts? I don't think very many teams have good records when things aren't going their way after two periods.

The trailing isn't really that bad at all. one or two wins and we'd be right up top. and I don't know how this how much this helps or hurts us but we were 29th in times led after 2

What about tied after two?
It's often been said that good teams find ways to win close games. While that's multi-factorial, I think it's ultimately pretty true. Upswings in won-loss for one goal games and for games tied after two would be very encouraging. Also, it'd be nice if there was a way to remove empty-net goals when looking at "one goal games."
