Pick any one of the teams expected to finish in the bottom 5 along with the Kings and assume that you're DL and you want to use Cammalleri as trade bait to nab the 1st and 2nd overall pick in the 2008 draft.
I don't think there's a single team on that list who wouldn't gladly give up their 1st or 2nd overall pick in the draft for Cammalleri + something else. The theoretical question would be - what else? IS Cammalleri for a 1st or 2nd overall pick straight-up worth it? If not, who or what else would come from the teams above that would make it worthwhile in your mind? I'm assuming a solid D prospect or a goalie... what do you think?
I'm personally of the opinion that the Kings won't make their biggest splash in terms of trades until draft day, and I think it'll involve Cammalleri.
Drafting a player ensures that you will be hanging on to him for a while, with RFA rules and everything.
How can you rationalize trading a potential franchise player for a guy that is going to be a UFA at the end of the season and has made it clear he will demand top dollar, especially when he has only had one great season?
That's a good theory. Not too many expected Demitra to get traded for a 1st and O'sullivan. With all the picks we have, i think Dean said it best "We have the most ammo in this years draft".
none of those scenarios will happen....the Ducks don't want Cammalleri if the price is Edmomton's pic. Leafs, Lightning, Panthers? Same position as you guys. They'll hold onto their pic. Atlanta? They are more concerned with striking a deal for Hossa.
As for O'Sullivan getting Demitra and a first....Salary dump and a middle of the round draft pic. No way they get a lottery pick in this glorious draft for Cammalleri and anything else. Honestly....lottery pics this year are high value. If you want one you better start throwing a name like Brown on the table.
Completely disagree. Why would the Kings trade a already proven NHL Player (even though he might be one dimensional) who scores a ton of points for a draft pick who might pan out? I think you give DL the chance to at least to see if he can get a deal done with Cammalleri. I would be really upset if he didn't try unless he got an unbelievable offer that included players that have already proven themselves coming back to the Kings.

List of players and teams that are forced to go to arbitration that live happily ever after are very short.

I think that you undervalue everything Kings. Cammalleri is definitely worth more than a top 5 pick in almost any draft. The only exception would be a draft that included a Gretzky, Lemieux or Crosby.

That might be true but DL can only start negotiations with MC on July 1st. Cammalleri's value is worth more than just a 1st or 2nd. I'm not opposed to a trade I'm just opposed to a trade that won't maximize the Kings value.

My feelings about what your players are worth has nothing to do with what I said. Why would a team that is going to miss the playoffs (3 of the teams mentioned) give up a blue chip lottery pick that is locked down for 3 years DIRT CHEAP for Cammalleri? I realize that the OP said "and something else" but without mention as to what the something else would be there really isn't anything to discuss now is there?
Now that I have explained why Toronto, Floriday and Tampa Bay probably won't be able to help fulfill this fantasy lets look at Atlanta. They are on the verge of losing Hossa for nothing is something doesn't happen in the next 31 hours. Whatever they get for Hossa will dwarf anything they can receive from LA (unless of course LA wants Hossa but you guys are so focused on draft pics that this hasn't even crossed anyones mind). Now lets look at Anaheim....while Cammalleri would fit nicely on just about any team I don't think he fits in anywhere on Anaheim. Seriously...once Weight returns the Ducks' top 3 lines are set in stone. So unless Cammalleri wants to skate with Marchant and May on nights when Parros is a scratch it isn't going to happen and the price that LA would be asking WOULD BE WAY TOO HIGH.
This draft is too damn good. Supposedly better than 2003. None of the teams, holding onto a lottery pick this year, will part with it for a single season of Cammelleri. Nobody.

I think they would because they would have exclusive negotiating rights to Cammalleri for a full year. This is why I think it would be foolish of DL to trade Cammalleri on a deal like that before he even attempts to negotiate a deal with Cammalleri himself unless he is getting a super deal. A first and second round pick is NOT a super deal for Cammalleri. For another team to get a player of Cammalleri's value and upside potential would be a good fit for all of those teams except Anaheim because they do not need him and there is too much of the old NHL in Burke and Lombardi to even consider trading with one another.
The point is moot anyways because the Kings will not end up with the first overall pick and DL will not trade Cammalleri at the deadline especially to a team out of the playoffs. The Kings will end up picking somewhere between 5th and 10th.
