The fight for finishing 30th will probably go down to the last game with Tampa Bay, but the Kings should be a lock to finish no better than 29h.
The next closest teams are: Atlanta, 9 points ahead of the Kings, St Louis, 9 pts ahead and Edmonton; 10 points ahead.
The Kings have 12 left to play. Atlanta has 12 left. ALL 3 of TB, EDM, and STL have 14 left to play.
To pass any of: STL, EDM, ATL, the Kings would have to go 8-4 and have ANY of these 'competitors' go 3-11 !!! (neither of these scenarios should happen)
This means that the Kings should be a lock to finish no better than 29th and it means that if they do fnish 29th and a team behind them wins the lotto, the Kings will be guaranteed of picking no less than 3rd overall. Also, this means the Kings 2nd rounder should be no less than 33. The Dallas pick will be between 27-30. This gives the Kings 3 selections in the top 33.
This also means that the Kings are a lock (to be able to, if Dean doesn't trade down)
to be in a position to draft 1 of: STAMKOS, DOUGHTY, PIETRANGELO, BOGOSIAN, or SCHENN.
From reading more and more about Pietrangelo, he may be better than Doughty.
Of course, DL could surprise once again and deem that Bogosian or Schenn is his pick.
Can you just see him, being interviewed post-draft and saying, "I watched 100's of hours of tapes, and Bogosian has the most upside of the defensemen in this draft"
Any way you look at this, you must know FULL WELL, that Dean and staff are doing as much homework and breaking down of the top 100 players in this talent ladened draft, as is humanly possible. This is the first year where he has 'all of his own people' in place and the staff working together, 'doing things his way'. June 24 is going to be beautiful.
The Kings have 10 selections in the first 4 rounds. Check out last year's Kings picks, in rounds 1-4. ALL of them are excelling this season - and that was in a less talented draft pool. He has the leverage of trading a couple of picks to move up in the draft as well.
4 D Thomas Hickey (captain, WJC Gold medal 11g 33 a +20)
52 C Oscar Moller (high praise from Burke - was leading WHL before WJC)
61 R Wayne Simmonds (WJC Gold, 31 g, 38 a, 109 pim in 57 games)
82 C Bryan Cameron (38 goals, 73 pts, +23)
95 D Alec Martinez (7 g 19 a in 36 games. 5 pp goals)
109 C Dwight King (30 g 33 a +22. more than doubled his goals from last yr)
We could also see a key player acquisition to come down as well for the Kings.
JUNE 24th cannot come soon enough for Kings fans!

I am not sure if you caught Kings talk the other night, but Nick hinted how the Scouts were extremeley impressed with Bogosian. In the few Youtube clips I saw of him, he looks pretty impressive and mean! I can't wait until June 20th, should be exciting.
have read good things about Petriangilo, but the knock on him is his foot speed. Have you watched him and how is his skating?

The Dallas pick is between 27-30 ONLY if they make the Stanley Cup semi-finals.

A misnomer. By draft time, a team has a very small wish list. A given team's wish list is between 80-100 players.
We found that the NHL organizations showed up at any given draft with as few as 80 players on their list. The common range was between 80 and 100, although two of our sources said they might have as many as 150 on their final list.
Either way, I agree draft day should be an exciting day for Kings fans. I firmly believe that it's the last draft before the Kings start making an upswing and challenge for a playoff spot next season. With so many picks and young players, they have to have an adequate reserve list.

Well his nickname in the OHL is "Prongstrom" because he has the size of Pronger and the slick offense of Lidstrom. I heard the knock on him was the lack of physical play and aggression. Apparently he has been working on that this year. I would not cry if we drafted third and took this guy but Doughty has played his best against the best in the world (WJC) where he was honored with the best defenseman award. And Stamkos is ....wel....Stamkos. An elite center with a great shot, stickhandling ability and the ability to do special things at top speed.
I would not be surprised at all to see Dean pull off several moves, for example:
Trade the Dallas 1st + one of our 2nd and/or 3rd/4th round picks to move up several spots in the 1st round.
I dont expect him to use every single one of our picks to draft prospects. I think he will use several of them to make moves. Bringing in THAT many prospects in a single year is something that I would worry could overload our development system (and yes, I know some picks would probably be used on players in the NCAA or CHL or wherever, but still).

Agreed, I too think he'll do some dealing at the draft. If we don't win the Stamkos sweepstakes, then I'm hoping we get two defensive studs. Of course I thought he'd do a little more at the deadline.

Just got back from a Niagara Ice Dogs vs. Oshawa Generals game to see some potential future kings in action (Taveras and Pietrangelo lol). I kept my eye on Pietrangelo because there is a strong possibility that he may become a King. He his a big boy, but I didn't see anything special from him! Hopefully there are better Defensemen in this draft besides him. But don't get me wrong he could of had a bad game today, but from what I seen, he wasn't very good.
As for Taveras, he wasn't that impressive as well. The game went into a shootout and he wasn't even choosen as one of the shooters. He's a real big boy for his age and seemed ok during the game. I don't get how people compare him to Wayne, and I've seen Taveras play during the juniors too and so far not impressed with this kid at all.
As far as someone I was impressed with, Legin was on fire! WOW amazing player! Columbus got lucky with that pick!
