Call me cynical, but maybe it's iconic because that's when the team didn't suck and Gretzky was in town.
I know what you mean, but from a merch perspective you had Kings hats and shirts everywhere. Was it trendy and bandwagon, sure. But nevertheless people bought that stuff cause it looked good, not cause of Wayne.
I agree with you that the Chevy logo is wack. Or at least too dated.
One good thing I will say about our current colors...they are unique from current and/or past LA sports teams. Purple and gold as too Lakers, personally, and maybe silver and black was too Raiders...

I do like the current crown crest though....
Current is too Kings .............. Sacramento that is.
I pray to whoever is God to bring back the black and white jerseys in there exact form. There is NO better jersey. I love the original 6 jerseys, but that Kings jersey is the TOUGHEST jersey ever designed, and it represents L.A. very well.
The ducks have NOTHING on those black and white jerseys. The purple is cool, but without it would be badder ass.

It wasn't just Wayne who sold all that merch, it was better looking pure and simple. Count me as a supporter of two or three colors on jerseys, not four.
I'd like them to gp back to the home whites to allow the visiting teams to wear their colored unis (I get tired of seeing the same black vs white every home game). I'd much rather see the Blackhawk & Flames wearing red than white, for example.
The Gretzky era ones were nice with their clean design, but I didn't care that much for the monochromatic look (even back then, I thought the home whites were better looking than the black ones).
I'd like to see them go to purple sweaters for the road. It doesn't bother me that much that they show up blue on TV (that could probably be corrected by adjusting the color slightly - the goalies' helmets usually look purple on air).
