Why do NHL teams hold rookie dinners so close to games? The Kings had their rookie dinner I heard Wednesday night. They were all spotted out in town at 4 am. Someone said they could smell the liquor on the bench during the game. Why do they do this? Is this supposed to be some sort of team building to spend senceless money, money that is more than some make in a whole year, then go out and absolutely stink up the rink? Does the Kings management approve of this? No excuses, but no wonder they got smoked! I have to believe young Johnson took the worst of it all, so maybe criticisism of his game should be tempered. Stupid tradition if that is what it is. Maybe they should grow up and act like professionals.
Not sure of the source here but they didn't look too energetic during the pre-game warm-up, and it woulfd certainly account for thier dismal performance. They definately looked like sheet all night. We've all gone to work hungover before but you'd think they would be up for a nationally televised game. They must have really tied one on for someone to smell liquor on the bench
They looked as bad as ever, especially in the first period. Even Kopitar looked liked an AHL player.
Although they came out hard, they took two stupid offensive zone penalties and looked totally lost after that. Dismal line matching didn't help either.
So they all went out and got plastered on WEDNESDAY night and still smelled of alcohol on FRIDAY night???? Or am I just confused and the game was actually played on Thursday?

Keenan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Crawford
Exactly. Seeing the 4th line out there with Iginla made me wonder too

I know people that have gotten so wasted you could smell liquor on them clear into the next evening
The rookie dinner is all that's left from the days of hazing the newbies. Just like fraternity's there used to be some serious **** going on. Read a few biographies from the 70's and beyond...
