Other teams of note:
-- Edmonton's pick will NOT be eligible for #1 overall (can't finish higher than 11, can't become higher than 7) [eat it, Doc!]
-- Dallas has clinched a playoff spot and is no longer eligible for the lottery. The best case scenario has them leaving the playoffs in the first round, thereby securing a spot from 15 to 22. (thanks muzz)

So is it pretty much a given that if we get the 1st pick, Stamkos is the man?? Even though we need more D as opposed to offense...
It's not a given to pick first even if we finish last. the odds are that we pick 2nd by two or three percentage points. and either way we still could finish 29th which would back us potentially back to 3rd pick

I know it's not a given we'll get the 1st pick, but IF we do, what i'm asking is what are the chances that Deano will take Stamkos as opposed to a blueliner??

If we get the #1 pick, Deano will either take Stamkos or trade down. I really doubt he would take anyone else with the #1 pick.

DL recently said he was going over to see how the players look. Stamkos, by all accounts, has been playing well. We'll see how he fares in comparison to players like Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo, etc.
So far, Sarnia has a 2-1 edge over Windsor. Stamkos has 5 goals in those 3 games.
Guelph has a 2-0 series lead over London. Drew Doughty has 2 goals in those 2 games.
Niagara has a 3-0 lead over Mississauga. Pietrangelo has 3 goals, 3 assists in those 3 games.
Peterborough is trailing Bellville 2-1. Bogosian has 2 assists in those 3 games.
Then again, those are just numbers. I've not seen any of the games, so I don't know how they look.
