About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. As much as I like our guys, there is no way in hell Kopitar and Brown would fetch Malkin.

Malkin is an elite-level player, miles ahead of both Kopitar and Brown, now and in the future.
I can understand Pittsburgh's reasons for considering a move like that, but we would have to add at least our #1 pick in this upcoming draft to make that happen.
hehheh...Kings FINALLY have two Stars - possible perrenial superstars in Brown and Kopitar who have both stated repeatedly that they LOVE it here in LA, team is coming into shape around them ... Malkin may be all that and a bag of chips... but this would just be monumentally stupid.
If Malkin gets hurt, you lose 100 tp 120 points. If Brown gets hurt, you lose 60-80 points (next season). Same with Kopitar. Better to keep both players then have just one.
In all honesty, does anyone here still harbor the idea that Kopitar will ever be as good a Malkin is?
In Kopitar and Brown, you have two very, very good players. Malkin is an elite-level, game-breaking player.
You think a package of Brown and Kopitar could get you Crosby? Ovechkin? Hell no, and Malkin is in that same category. The only reason that this theoretical is even a possibility is that the Pens have a potential cap issue. You put Malkin on any other team in the east, and they'd laugh that deal right off of the table.
You people crack me up! Malkin is not that far ahead of Kopitar or Kopitar is not that far behind Malkin; however you want to look at it. Malkin is not the marked man when Crosby is on the ice. Yes he's been a scoring machine with Crosby out but have we not seen Kopitar go on a tear? I think so! Mean while every time Kopitar steps on the ice the other team is all over him. Much easier to worry about one game breaker than it is two. Another point already made...what happens when Malkin gets hurt? With the exception of Crosby or Ovechkin I'll take my chance with two great players rather than one. Does anyone think that Malkin is as effective as Kopitar and Brown combined? If so I feel sorry for you. Does Malkin kill penalties like Kopitar or Brown? NOPE. Does Malkin take the body like Brown can? NOT EVEN CLOSE! Malkin will max out at what maybe 105-110 points this year if he has a couple great games to end the regular season. Right now Kopitar and Brown have a combined 126 points. Scoring comes natural to Malkin so how much more upside is there to Malkin? Did I mention he is a year older than Kopitar? Kopitar and Brown have improved year after year. Is it not plausible to think that Kopitar is capable of 85-95 points/year and Brown capable of 70-80 points/year? That would only be a 15 point increase each next season.
BTW Mondo Malkin is nowhere near the level of Crosby or Ovechkin.
And for anyone still wondering...hell yeah I'm biased! GO KINGS GO!!!

So, don't get out much, huh?
Malkin is a already a top-10 player in this league. Kopitar isn't even a top-10 center.
Some of you really need to take off the Kopi-colored glasses and realize that as good as this kid is, he is not necessarily a "superstar" talent.
Go ahead and play "what if" card all you want. Within 3 years, Malkin's contract will be less that that of the combined Brown/Kopitar deals, and we will have a lot of young talent to pay.
If you can't see the difference that having a 110-120 point player on your team, as opposed to having a 80-90 point player and a 60-65 point player, fine. I understand the whole "2 very good players are better than 1 great player" argument, but we are talking about one of the very few players in the league that is worth considering such a deal.
Interesting -- because if PIT is really headed for cap trouble with all those former high picks now wanting big money, then so are the Kings. It just doesn't make sense to suck for five years the way it used to.
Malkin: DOB 7/31/86
Kopitar: DOB 8/24/87
Brown DOB 11/4/84
Brown is signed long-term, and Kopi is basically Malkin's age and will want similar $ in a similar timeframe.
So what's in this for the Kings? And I would never trade assets of that level for an elite Russian player, not with that Russian Superleague card they can always play.
Just my point Malkin is NOT one of the few players one should consider if we were to package Kopitar and Brown. Kopitar not a top 10 center huh...if your basing that purely off points then he's ranked #11. Malkin's contract may be less than theirs combined but what does that matter. Again you have more money tied up in one player...what happens when he gets hurt. 120 points...get real! No doubt there is a difference between a 110 point player and a 90 point player. Do you know what the difference is? How about playing on the PP with a guy named Sidney Crosby. If you think Malkin could put up 102 points playing for this team you are severly mistaken! On the flip side Kopitar playing with Crosby I'm 99% sure he'd be closer to 85 points right about now.
I think I'll keep my KOPI-colored glasses on thank you very much! I'd like to retract my previous statement...I am NOT biased anymore

Dude, that is the whole point. Kopitar is bringing a lot of points to the table, but not at a "superstar" clip.
I don't want to be branded as a Kopi hater, 'cause that is far from the truth, but the reality is that he is in a class below the true elite of this game.
