can the kings work out a deal with the Lightning, whereby the Lightning claim him and then trade him to the Kings for a 5th round pick, and then the Kings send him to Manchester?
It's probably because people are going -- Thornton, Willsie, etc. -- he's a warm body or "filler" in DL speak. Remember Marty Murray, Jamie Lundmark, Jamie Heward, and Jason Ward.
In the games I saw Ellis play in this season he seemed to not fit in very well on the ice with the Wings... this is probably more likely due to the fact that he got such little playing time and not because he isnt any good.
The guys all loved him, and I think he got the best quote ever from Babcock after one of his first few games with the Wings, it went something like:
"The kid works his tail off and he makes me proud to be the coach of the RedWings."
I cant link it, because it was said in an FSN mid-game interview, but the whole team had nothing but good things to say about him and I hope he does well in LA... OK, not too well =)
