We've got a great thread on the Kings lottery pick already. I'm also curious to see where the Dallas 1st rounder from the Norstrom trade falls. Here are the current standings from this morning:
2007-2008 Regular Season Standings (as of Mar 30, 2008)
Rank Team GP W L OT Pts
1 y - Detroit Red Wings 78 51 20 7 109
2 y - San Jose Sharks 78 47 21 10 104
3 x - Montréal Canadiens 79 44 25 10 98
4 x - Pittsburgh Penguins 78 45 26 7 97
5 x - Anaheim Ducks 79 44 27 8 96
6 New Jersey Devils 78 43 28 7 93
7 Minnesota Wild 79 42 28 9 93
8 Dallas Stars 78 43 29 6 92
9 Ottawa Senators 79 42 29 8 92
10 New York Rangers 77 40 26 11 91
11 Philadelphia Flyers 79 40 28 11 91
12 Calgary Flames 78 40 28 10 90
13 Boston Bruins 78 40 28 10 90
14 Colorado Avalanche 79 42 31 6 90
15 Carolina Hurricanes 79 42 31 6 90
** Washington Capitals 79 40 31 8 88 (Non-Playoff)
16 Nashville Predators 78 39 31 8 86
There are SIX teams within 2 points of the Stars, but the Stars hold the # of Wins tiebreaker over all of them at the moment. We are going to need some help from Anaheim, Phoenix (2), and San Jose to keep Dallas at bay.
Dallas' pick technically could fall to anywhere between 15th and 23rd (basically any non-divisional winner at the moment). They have 92 points currently.
Today's Important Games for the Dallas Draft Pick are:
Rangers 91 w/ 5 vs. Penguins 97 w/ 4
Predators 86 w/ 4 (longshot) vs. Red Wings 109 w/ 4 (out of Dallas' reach)
Avalanche 90 w/ 3 vs. Wild 93 w/ 3
Bruins 90 w/ 4 vs. Sabres (can't catch Dallas)
Stars 92 w/ 4 vs. Ducks 96 w/ 3
Flames 90 w/ 4 vs. Canucks 86 w/ 4 (longshot)
If Anaheim wins outright today, Dallas would have to win all of it's remaining games to pass the Ducks (if the Ducks lose out). Big 4 point swing game.
I'll be busy as can be this week. If someone else wants to take ownership of this thread, I'd be fine with that.
Go everyone that plays Dallas!

Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't playoff teams "reseated" depending on how they do in the playoffs? If I remember correctly, doesn't the stanley cup champion pick 30th, regardless of where they finished the regular season? Like I said, I could be wrong though.

Yes, I believe you're right, which is why it would be awesome if the Stars didn't make the playoffs at all.

Dude,
You are correct about the reseeding. The Stanley Cup Finalist picks 30th, the Runner up for the Cup picks 29th. Then the teams that lose in the Conference Finals pick 27th and 28th (worse records), then the Divisional Winners that aren't in the above are next (25th and 26th, or more of them if a lower seed advances to the final 3 series of the year).
The teams that get ousted that aren't divisional winners go last in order of points first, then wins. I'm hoping that Dallas fits in that category...

So...what you're saying is that if Dallas gets ousted in the first or second round, then their pick is determined by their regular season points total? But if they make it to the conference finals, they'll either be picking 27th or 28th, and if they make it to the Stanley Cup, either 29th or 30th?

I hope dallas makes it in as the 5th seed...we all know the ducks arent going to lose in the first round anyway so they might as well knock out the next hated team (imo). That'll ensure the kings get atleast a pick in the 14-20 spot.

Yea the Ducks need to win atleast 1-2 games, the only team I think Dallas has a legitimate shot at beating is Minnesota. The question is who would we pick with Dallas's first rounder? Im interested in Toews, or a Dmen: Teubert, Carlson, Del Zotto.
