Though this isn't a strong draft year for goaltenders that doesn't mean the LA Kings shouldn't be on the prowl for "tender talent. Up near the top of the thin pool are Europeans Harri Sateri and Jacob Markstrom of Finland and Sweden respectively. In NAmerica names like Chet Pickard,Chris Carrozzi,Jake Allen,Thomas McCollum have been bandied about as 'tenders for the future. One name that has stayed in the background is Juha Metsola. He is a '89 born player who at one time was the darling of Finnish netminding along with Sateri. Now Metsola plays in Canada for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He played second fiddle to Michael Maniago this season. That was until the play-offs where coach Michael Dyck decided that Metsola would be given the reins at least until he lost. Well he has played 10 of the 11 contests thus far in the '08 playoffs and has on most occasions been solid if not spectacular. Juha is not Tall tipping the scales at around 5-10,5-11. He is a good standup 'tender who also plays some butterfly. He is cool as a cuccumber and doesn't easily get rattled. If I had to pick between LRowat and Metsola, I'd go with the 19 year old Finn anyday. Hope the Kings draft him somewhere in the 5-7th round. He's worth at least that.
If the Kings can get a decent goalie prospect in the mid-late rounds then that would be great, but I think with Bernier, Zatkoff, Quick, Ersberg, they dont need to be focusing on a goalie in the first few rounds.
