I've learned that Jack Johnson will be included as one of the defensemen when the preliminary roster for the IIHF Men's World Championship is released by USA Hockey later this week.
However, it's too early to tell right now if his foot will be ready in time for the camp which opens April 24. it would be nice to see him continue to get exposure (but not at the risk of pushing the healing process to fast). Might make the games worth watching just to see a little more JMFJ and the Canadian fans' reactions as he is not a fan favorite up Nort.
Whether he is able to play or not will not have any bearing on his 2010 Olympic team chances.
Here's to your health Jack!

An interview with Patrick O'Neil on Thursday he didn't mention anything about the WC's. Said he was going home to Michigan to take some more classes. I would think the Kings would have to give him clearance to play. This may (unfortunately) be too soon and they will want to be extra cautious that they aren't rushing him back. My guess is that he will miss this year's WC's! :(

I'm thinking the "invite" came after Thursday. The invite may be more cermonial offering because of the injury, letting him know he wasn't being passed on because of it. I don't know about the clearance thing or if there is anything in the CBA about having to allow someone to play if they are invited and want to. Perhaps more of an "agreement" rather than a negotiated benefit by the NHLPA. Anyone know?
Looking forward to the WC's this year. A positive out of missing the playoffs is having Kopitar with the Slovenian side again (sure hope he accepts an invitation). Games vs. USA and Canada should be fun to watch, even better with some Kings' players on the NA teams.
