Goons? Yes, I agree. Fighters - I disagree. Look at Gleason, O'Donnell, Richardson, Foote, White, Jovo, Commodore, etc. all good dmen and all willing fighters.

The difference between a McGratton/Boogaard/Brashear and Ivanans is those guys are legitimate bad-asses who still can intimidate other players. Their one-dimensionality is made up for by the fact they can kick ass. Ivanans is a slightly better player, but worse fighter. I guess it's a wash at the end of the day.
I think what Salty wants is a guy like, I dunno, STEVE ****ING DOWNIE will take a regular shift, grab some points, make real contributions when needed, and drop the gloves.
Guys like that are few and far between. You want top 6 wings with toughness. Rattis isnt now, or ever will be that. However, he is like the Colton Orr/Fedoruks of the world, taking a regular 4th line shift and not really costing your team too much fiscally or in terms of on-ice.
I want top 6 forwards with toughness but I don't want top 6 forwards in the box for 5 minutes at a time.
Sometime last year, I think, DL/MC were talking about how they were evaluating pairs of offensive players instead of 3-man line combinations. If you imagine a team with 3 pairs of 2 great creative offensive shooters/finishers/playmakers, you can fill each those lines out with a "tough" winger that may not have the offensive talent for anything more than grinding along the boards and creating turnovers but will be there to protect the other guys. So if you're then rolling 3 lines of about 17-18mins/game each and your 4th line is all about energy/shutdown, you might be a little more balanced.
Then again, I just pictured Ivanans skating a shift with Cammy and Moller and kinda pooped my pants a little, and not in a good way.
I agree! Seriously he may be able to throw a decent punch but the dude
can not skate for the life of him. He has NO puck control and seems to
do more harm than good for this team.
if you honestly expect more than the very rare occasional goal, then your delusional. its a cheap signing for a role player, the real money is gonna go to the extensions of the young guys and FA's.
Okay he's willing, but just doesn't cut the mustard.
I sooo agree. I call him Huggie Bear because that's mostly what his fighting is. One shot that connected a year in a rare altercation doesn't do much of anything. Though he may not be good at fighting, Parros got/gets into a lot more scuffles and stands up for his teammates a lot better. One of my big frustrations with the team is that Ivanans gets a regular shift in games even though he doesn't have that level of skill. I put this in the Cloutier extension category.

No delusions my friend - I never said I expected a goal every time he touches the puck - but it would be nice if the guy could at least help produce something on the ice (i.e. - a decent pass to his team mates instead of turning the puck over time and time again) besides a punch to someone's head.
