Of course, but then again, these teams spend thousands of dollars watching every prospect, getting in groups to discuss, interviewing, and reading their files... I know dick about the prospects in comparison to the teams.
And Lee was more of a safe pick, being a defensive d-man, and Bourdon was more of a boom-or-bust.
Exactly! That's why making a statement like Schenn not being in the same universe as Doughty is weak, at best.
It isnt saying that Schenn is a bad hockey player. Or even that he shouldnt be the third or perhaps even the second defenseman taken.
it's saying that Doughty is THAT ****ING GOOD.
whats wrong with that?
It's weak because it's a cluster**** of a statement that gives no insight as to WHY you feel the way you feel. It also gives no indication as to which player will have the better NHL career, in your opinion.
QUESTION: What would feel worse?
a. finish with worst record and lose the draft lottery to Tampa Bay
b. finish with worst record and lose the draft lottery to Atlanta
c. finish with worst record and lose the draft lottery to St. Louis
d. finish with worst record and lose the draft lottery to NY Islanders
These are all possibilities so why not hope to beat the Ducks and then let the chips fall where they may? If we don't get Doughty or Stamkos because we inexplicably draft 3rd then we'll settle for Bogosion, Pieterangelo or Schenn. By the way all the players listed above are better prospects than Karl Alzner. And Hockeys Future just listed Hickey as it's 26th ranked NHL prospect....

The way I see it, it's one of those Hickey v. Alzner much higher ceiling dilemmas all over again.

Some people are more opinionated than me I'm very careful when making assertions; others aren't as careful. Nothing wrong with that.
And in all fairness, neither you nor I know what VQ's seen or who he knows.
I do think Schenn is going to drop further than most think. It's not a testament of him lacking skill; just that defensive stalwarts are very rarely top 10 picks nowadays.
You people kill me. No one knows "in any way, shape or form" which player will be the best to come out of this draft. Did anyone have clue Kopitar would be the 2nd or 3rd best from 2005?
jom
Yes actually a lot of people had Kopitar that high. They were freaked out by the intangible that no one from Slovenia had ever played in the NHL. Redline Report had him very highly rated. Sometimes the best players slip because people play it safe and draft canadians kids playing Major Junior or draft for need, rather than taking the best player available.
From TSN article on Kopitar signing with LA...
"Prior to the NHL Entry Draft this past July, Kopitar was rated by Central Scouting as the number one European skater, and both The Hockey News and Red Line Report ranked him as the sixth best Draft-eligible prospect."
If Dave Taylor hadn't been obsessed with the Kings need for a "power forward" I seriously doubt he would have drafted Jens Karlson in 2001.

Reason: add more information

Which is precisely why I'm asking for some clarification and insight.
