I don't even thing that was a passing of the torch, they stripped Modano of the C and gave it to Morrow. Sure as hell wasn't a passing.
Also no matter what Brown does on the ice and the impact he has he has to pay his dues and should not be giving a captain's C right away. It's stupid if you believe that. Put an A on his chest next season and let him grow into it. Crosby started with an A before and Ovechkin has it now let them grow into the role. So unless we acquire someone who is captain material through either trading or the Free Agent Market here is current Kings.
So now there are only three people that have worn A's during the Crawford era that could be in captaincy. All three have barely had an A with those players being Armstrong Cammalleri and Visnovsky.
Armstrong being the oldest of the bunch was snubbed of an assistant captain role last year. He's been with the Kings for a good amount of time now and has worn an A before.
Visnovsky obviously had less than a banner year and really do you see Visnovsky as the type of player to lead the team. I still love the guy but he's not a captain.
Cammalleri is a pain in the ass. I think he wants to win yes and maybe vocal but I don't believe he is the right person for this team. Considering his actions during arbitration and what people call is a very large head do you really want this guy as captain.
Out of the three I'd rather have Armstrong, you're captain never needs to be the best player on your team. Jeff Halpern used to be the captain of the Washington Capitals and he's a great role player. Or even a guy like Chris Clark and Washington and Ethan Moreau and Edmonton. Not their best players but the best for their team. I don't see the answer being players like Calder and or Handzus either if Blake does not come back.
Honestly I think either you name Armstrong the captain of this team. You let Derek play his game, and unfortunately that maybe on the second line which is not suited for Derek. But when he's your best ****ing option get over it and support the damn guy. Until Lombardi brings someone in to cement a better second line through either Manchester or other means, let Derek play his game. He still had the 6th best point total on the Kings for forwards.
The other option is to grow some of your younger players and instead of having a Captain award 5-6 assistants and have your road and home assistants. That way Cammalleri, Armstrong, and Visnovsky can be assistants and then you have two or three extra assistants that you can hand out to some of the younger guys as a learning experience. So now you can get Brown that assistant's A as well as possibly even Kopitar or O'Sullivan if they show they are ready for it.
I'm always tickled when somebody who has never spent a minute inside the King's dressing room is willing to offer his thoughts on who the best captain would be.
[quote=CBGB;1150138]I'm booing.
As for the Captaincy....
I say give it to Cammalleri, with a decent contract extension cause it ain't Brown, it ain't Fro-Loaf, too young for JMFJ or Kopi and I certainly don't want it to be Lubo. That to me is just another Norstom and I will once again come out with the prediction that "as long as Norstrom/Lubo is the Captain, the Kings will never win the Stanley Cup"
I say Brown would be the best captain material we have but that isn't saying much. We need to bring in an experienced captain to lead this team. Someone who knows how to lead a playoff team.
I would like one example that shows Cammy to be a pain in the ass ego maniac. The jaded suggestions of the peanut gallery on LGK don't count.
Anyone? Anyone?

Just look at him going into arbitration asking for 6 million after one good year. There are a lot of better NHL Players making less money then he asked for. It was a damn good thing he didn't get anywhere close to the amount of money he asked.
Also his play after he came back was terrible. He tried so hard for every goal that he kept shooting from ridiculous angles multiple times in one game. It was like he was trying to catch up to Brown, Kopitar and O'Sullivan. Just watch how everything looked so forced with him later in the season compared to earlier in the season.
So this is all still conjecture, right? Just checking.
Arbitration is an ugly business. Cammy made his play, the Kings made theirs, and that's how it works. Of course he is going to ask for more than he's worth, that's how it works.
As for his play on the ice, dude battled an injury for the entire second half of the season.
Do I think we'd be better off spending the money elsewhere? Absolutely. But the idea that Cammy is a rotten guy is silly.

Come on though you think 6 million is just a tad too high? Players with around a 6 million dollar cap number
Ryan Smyth 6.250
Ilya Kovalchuk 6.4
Patrick Elias 6.0
Marian Hossa 6.0
Rick Nash 5.4
Martain St. Louis 5.250
Alex Tanguay 5.250
Olli Jokinen 5.250
Marc Savard 5.0
Shane Doan 4.5
Now would you agree that Cammalleri belongs with that list? It's in his head.
I would actually applaud Beaky Buzzard if he signs somewhere else or just f'n retires...Look, I have told everyone that JMFJ could never live up to the expectations that were put on him from draft day on...and as a DEVILS fan I personally took offense to the SCOTTYF'NSTEVENS comparisons...but, as a Devils fan primarily who watches the KINGS on a regular basis, I gotta say, the kid is the real deal. If you want to make a statement, he should be captain. With the news that the Kings are prob'ly gonna use the 2nd pick on a d-man, and Hickey waiting in the wings...it is clear that the primary focus is the defense. Scoring is not a problem. Goaltending has been. With a solid young defense lead by JJ, well...Ersberg/LaBarbara/Bernier are gonna have a hell of a lot more luck. GET'ER'DONE
