About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Most of those prospects CBGB listed won't be around when we make our second pick, barring a trade up.
You know what? Going through San Jose's drafts under DL stewardship, I really don't think he drafted THAT well. He seems to have done well in last season's draft (knock on wood), but is his drafting record (outside of European goaltenders) *that* impressive?
I'm not talking about his ability to put together a deal, just talking about straight drafting...
On a side note, anybody know how much overlap there is between his current scouting staff and his staff while he was in SJ?
Scouts have more input into who is drafted than the GM does,I don't think you can place the blame solely on DL.
It's going to be pretty hard to screw this draft up... .
Tambellini/Boyle
instead of
Perry/Eaves
It has been done before

Not that it's relevant, just an aside.
Dean Lombardi became GM April 21st, 2006. On June 24th, 2006 Dean traded Pavol Demitra to the Wild for their #1 pick (Trevor Lewis) and Patrick O'Sullivan.

The question is whether or not you trust his ability to make a pick, but question not the depth of the Kings' scouting staff knowledge on player X.
They admittedly "questioned" Bryzgalov's "teammate" issue - then said they may have made a mistake on that one - so which is it? If the Kings scouting staff is so "knowledgeable" how come Bryz isn't signed for 3 years?
FYI - When he was obtained by the Coyotes, their record was 7-10-0 and they were in last place.
Bryzgalov is 25-17 since joining the Yotes.
If the Kings had those 8 wins, they would be two points out of a playoff spot.

Well, I wasnt really speaking of pro scouting, but since were on to that...
I'm not sure that even the best pro scouting can get into the lockerrooms and get details on the mannerisms of certain players. I mean, does Florida acquire Chad Kilger if thats the case? Or Toronto get Mark Bell? I think sometimes you take a couple of pieces of second hand info and use it to make the best decision possible.
I really, truly think Dean was worried about Bryz not signing on for the long term. Yes, I know he has a home here and all of that nonsense, but that didnt stop Ryan Smyth from not returning to Alberta, or canada at all for that matter, as an example.
I also think that, defensively, Phx is much more sound than the Kings. Not sure if that will pan out in numbers, but if you see the cohesion between defensive pairings and most of their decision making, you can see they have a head start on the kings in that dept.
Tambellini/Boyle

True but he publicly admitted when interviewed right after picking Lewis that he didn't know that much about him and that the selection was purely at the urging of the existing scouts.
