Do you really think running a real hockey team is like running a fantasy team in a league with your buddies where you trade everyone and everything with the greatest of ease?
Do you complaining people giving DL F's and saying he will get roasted at the GM breakfast all really think that he didn't actively shop all of our "assets"?
STOP OVERVALUING THESE GUYS. Nagy, Willsie, Thornton SUCK.
The Blackhawks, who were shopping much better assets, wound up with only Andrew Ladd and a 6th round pick.
The Maple Leafs got a 2nd, a 3rd, and 2 5ths.
Atlanta made a nice score of 2 roster players and Esposito but they had THE BEST TRADING CHIP ON THE MARKET...
Edmonton nothing...
Tampa Bay had a nice day but they too had top assets (Richards and Prospal).
I don't really know what the hell is wrong with so many of you.
I hate Armstrong and even I can tell you he is worth more to this team than the 5th he'd have fetched.
Willsie, Nagy, Thornton were all untradable I am sure. I know it sucks.
Blake wouldn't let us trade him and if it was true that he said only 2 (or 1?) teams, did you really think they'd overpay knowing this information?
Next time this year, Cammelleri will either be helping us fight for a playoff spot or will net us a much bigger return then he would have this year (slumping scorers coming off of injuries are a lot less tradable than 25+ goal scorers which he might be this time next year). I'm sure he was shopped and undervalued.
We got rid of MODRY for a 3rd, Stuart for a 2nd and 4th (boo-hoo I want a 1st too but this guy is far too inconsistant has been his whole career Calgary overpaid last year why would a team do the same this year?)...
Cheers to DL and God help you get through all of the mindless drones you will have to face at the season ticket holder breakfast...
The Kings trade one of the few defensemen that played halfway decent for draft picks.
The Kings retain an overpriced and aging defensemen.
The fans anticipated guys like Nagy, Blake and Thornton to be moved.
I fully understand why people are upset. It's a natural reaction given our current circumstances.
That said, I'm not upset. Everyone DL could have traded was injured. And, I think Stuart's comments made it clear that he didn't want to be part of a loser (aka rebuild). Besides, Stuart wasn't God's gift to defense. I don't think he was irreplaceable. DL still has my full confidence and I look forward to the draft (and to Blake no longer wearing a Kings uniform).

I was under the impression that those that set out to pee in DL's cereal last breakfast with the GM got shut down pretty good.
I'm going this year...and I'm sure it will happen again. I think that Nagy was the only other chip that could have been used, but really he probably wouldn't have fetched much, I agree; less with his injury and bad season. Most of us recognized that the roster moves made during the off-season were to yield picks at the deadline. Stuart did that. Tom P. and Zeus were signed to longer term deals, I didn't see them moving.
You're right. Wils, Thornton and Armstrong don't have much trade value. I think Trading all of them would explode DL's plan of slowly bringing the young guys up in rotation to see how they've developed.
It really is amazing how the people here can bitch and moan all season about how horrible and worthless the players are and then, somehow, think another team will see them as the missing piece and give up anything valuable for them.

Sticky this - Karma to you when its turned back on!

But this is maybe the real reason why today was such a disappointment for some. Not so much that DL couldn't get something for a bunch nothings, but paying these three "nothings" $6M for the year and ending up with a trio who a self-described DL believer says "SUCK."
