...I thought it would be interesting to watch Steven Stamkos in action this afternoon. So, I forked over my $7.00 and watched the OHL Livestream of the Sarnia/Windsor game. My impressions are:
he makes things happen whenever he has the puck near the opposition's net (five goals/zero assists so far in the series' three games)
he appears to be defensively responsible
he lost nearly every faceoff that he took
he's not involved in the play very much (during the course of the game he handled the puck no more than a total of five minutes total - compared to fellow high-rankiing Windsor prospects Joshua Bailey (ISS #11 in 2008) & Taylor Hall (top 5 in 2010) who both were around 10-12 minutes)
Having also watched him play a little in the WJC, like some of you, I would say that, to this point, I would describe him as a player with excellent shooting/puckhandling skills, but, he is not a player that seems to take over the game with his skills. He needs to improve on his puck pursuit skills and needs to show a little more initiative. At times he could even appear disinterested or lazy. Just my limited observations.
I would be interested to hear someone else's opinion if they watched today's game or another game in the series.

I've been keeping my eye on this series since I'm from Windsor. Stamkos is awesome, like I posted before he does take all the faceoffs, but I wasn't keeping track of his winning %, although most that I seen him take, he lost.
What I like most about him is....not only is he a skilled player, he blocks shots and is great defensively...also he can strip people off the puck.
I've also been trying to watch Peitangelo, since I go to school in St. Catharines...I only caught him once and he was not impressive at all.
But....the Niagara IceDogs and Mississauga series has shown Peitangelo on the board with 3 goals I believe now and 2 or 3 assists. in 4 games.
So maybe I caught a bad game...either way I'm going to have to catch the Icedogs again soon and give this kid another look...I'll follow up for sure!
