IMO I think he's a good player and a decent leader. I just think he's selfish. I never jumped on the 'boo Blake' bandwagon because I don't blame him for doing what's in his best interest. I probably would have too. I can see why people respect him though. He was one of my favorite player in the 90's. I still rock my hat that he signed with players like Tim Waters, Gretzky and Luc at the old Ice O Plex.

Yeah, I knew a guy on the intarwebz that said Blake cut in front of him in line at the Taco Bell down in Redondo.
i had the same thought, and i posted it over in the "payback is a bitch! thread"
after i made that post, i was also thinking. even after the 2001 "incident" or whatever, people want to cry about Blake still, but he was still named as captain. that's got to be saying something.
and furthermore, i remember Matty saying he would gladly give the captaincy back immediately after Blake came back.
just some food for thought (as if we haven't talked this to death already).;
Players (the NHLPA) like him because he sacrificed his reputation and the love of a city in order to raise the bar for player salaries.
At the time Blake was a big time player, and it's important to the NHLPA for the star players to make as much as they can because that raises the salaries for all of the other players. As a result of players like Blake, the poorer owners locked out the players because home town discounts became discouraged among the players.
It is pretty funny that Blake never made the money he hoped because the terms of the new bargaining agreement slashed contracts and shortened his career while in turn also directly influenced the lockout. Karma.
Blake's a competitor and a clean player. There's no question players around the league respect him.
But I'm sure there are plenty of celebrities that you haven't met, that you think are douche bags. But, I'm sure you'll find other people respect them anyway. Just because some people have respect for an individual, doesn't mean you have to.

Yes, I know for a fact he is struggling to pay the mortgage on his giant ocean front house, make payments on all his cars, and generally has to go to COSTCO for the giant tub of mayonnaise so his kids can eat lunch.
Are you ****ing kidding me with this? I've seen stretches here to see how people can slam this guy, but this one is the best by far.
Blake never made the money he hoped for. That is priceless.
Dude, he ripped off his "C", lowered his trade value and ripped a hole in the Ozone layer!
Then, years later, he has the nerve to sign a contract with the full intention of spending the entire length of that contract in Los Angeles! What a selfish prick!
