I want the Los Angeles Kings to win as many games as humanly possible. If the fate of the franchise hinges on the acquisition of a single 17 year old kid then we all need a new hobby.
I agree, play to win.
To add a wrinkle, while I'd like to see them win all the time, I don't mind much (at this point in the building process) if they lose after putting up a solid effort but being outclassed by a superior playoff-bound team. That's just part of the process, especially when the roster inevitably gets younger after the trade deadline. But that's entirely different from rooting for a loss game-in, game-out.
And, once again, I think lots of folks missed the sarcasm when I proposed early on that every thread should include the name Stamkos.

The way this team is playing, there is a good chance they won't be in last place. They won't make the playoffs, but if they can keep playing like this, not only is it good for the younger guys, BUT I would imagine it'll be a lot easier to attract UFA's when all the "experts" doing predictions for next year talk about how great the Kings were in the second half and how they should be a good team next year.
If its the last day of the season and the Ducks were in and we were out, we the Kings have nothing to play for but pride and a roster spot of next year. This is worth playing hard for. We may even have a few rookies playing, like MFJJ did last year. We will not have some of the players we have now do to trades too. But with that said, they will play hard for a roster spot next year. The Ducks..if they are smart will rest players and not play hard incase a suspension might be handed out that would carry into the playoffs. Plus..if the Ducks lose..its a bonus to them knowing they just screwed the Kings out of the first pick.
The Kings had a shot at Van Rymsdyk or Turis - All they had to do was LOSE their last game Vs Phoenix - Anze won the game with 2 minutes left, Chicago won the lottery and instead of the 2nd pick in the draft, the Kings wound up with the 4th. Would you have rather had Van Rymsdyk or Turris? Or are you happy with Hickey, whom you didn't even know about?

Um... if not for Chicago's lottery win, we'd have most likely picked 3rd. We could only pick 1st, 3rd, or 4th. It was impossible for us to pick 2nd without a trade. As is often the case, I agree with your passion but not your facts.
I wanted Turris. But I blame Chicago's luck (8.1% chance!) more than anything else. Why is it Anze's goal in the final Phoenix game that did it? Why isn't it any other game earlier in the season that we happened to win? Or Phoenix's fault for losing? Or... Or...
Folks, it's just terrible to hate the fact that we won, and it's reprehensible to actually promote losing on purpose when we're trying to change a losing culture here in LA. Again, however, I have no qualms about the "good losses." Play hard and lose to a better team? That's fine. And I'll have no qualms about losing with a roster full of kids playing hard for us after the trade deadline, which will no doubt suit the want-to-lose crowd just fine.

Regarding Stamkos & Daughty & all the top pick this year. I was thinking if Dean wants a D man then why NOT pick Stamkos & use him for trade bait for the top bidder. I am sure Deano would not be dumb enough to trade a kid like Steve for a Lidstrom / Pronger / Souray.
