I know it may sound like I was living under a rock for a while. And if you think 41 acres overlooking a lake in nor cal without internet, cable, sat or access to any kings info was simillar. You may be right. But why did we trade Huet? Did we get anything good for him? Im guessing I will get flamed for this. But if anyone can clue me in I would love to know. Not trying to beat a dead horse here and know it is way old news. But I have no idea what happened and thought he played great for the kings when they had him. Please tell me we did not trade him off in some crazy three way deal to get Cloutier. I dont think my heart could take it.

We sent Radek Bonk and Huet to Montreal for Garon and a 3rd round draft pick on draft day 2004. He was 14-20 as a King so its not like he flashed any signs of greatness.

It was a 3-way deal, but not for Cloutier. If I'm not mistaken Cloutier was had for a second in 2007.
This is the trade involving Huet
Quote:
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Montreal Canadiens swung a three-team trade Saturday to acquire Ottawa Senators forward Radek Bonk and Los Angeles Kings goaltender Cristobal Huet.
The Senators initially traded Bonk to the Kings for a third-round pick, but Los Angeles quickly dealt him and Huet to Montreal for goalie Mathieu Garon and the Canadiens' third-round choice, No. 95 in Saturday's draft.
We sent Radek Bonk and Huet to Montreal for Garon and a 3rd round draft pick on draft day 2004. He was 14-20 as a King so its not like he flashed any signs of greatness.
He was drafted by the Kings and showed signs of competence and maybe a hint of really really goodness.
At the time of the trade Garon was 16-20 for the Canadiens.
So...
I say this trade was worse than the Tambellini trade.
Goalie stats from the year prior to the off-season trade:
GT Year Tem GP Mins GlA SO GlAA Wn Ls Ti Savs SvPct
RC 0304 LOS 49 2701 113 05 2.51 18 21 06 1085 0.906
CH 0304 LOS 42 2199 089 03 2.43 10 16 10 0872 0.907
MG 0304 MON 19 1003 038 00 2.27 08 06 02 0442 0.921
RC = Roman Cechmanek
CH = Cristobal Huet
MG = Mathieu Garon
That season, many from this board hated Cechmanek, thought Huet was just ok (despite the slight difference between RC & CH's stats) and remember the stellar game Garon had against the Kings.
There was an outcry on the board, something like we hear often: "Why can't the Kings trade for a goalie like that."
So they did.
Hell, I remember at the time of the Cechmanek trade how the consensus was that it was a helluva trade and that the Kings finally had a real goalie!
Back to Garon/Huet . . .
You put Huet in Garon's place and Huet looks like Garon.
You put Garon in Huet's place and Garon looks like Huet.
Just proves that the problem wasn't the goal-tending.

I was a fan...... I remember him looking a hell of a lot better then Chokey.
and was hoping he would get the starting job. My least favorite goalies in the last 10 seasons would be Cloutier then Choker followed fuji ..... My favorites would be Huet,Potvin,Labarbera and then Garon.
When the trade when down..... I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it... It seemed like parallel move to me and wasn't sure what the story was with that.
That all being said.... I'm not ready to give up on Labarbera yet, unlike most of the board. Perhaps I am a little farther gone then I realize.
Huet was great playing in the big leagues with a minor league roster in front of him. I was choked when the Kings moved him rather carelessly, though I will admit to having higher hopes for Garon. Well, both are gone now, and we still suck big time. Some how I think things went wrong somewhere.
In the slightly modified words of Britney Spears: "Oops, the Kings did it again"
