About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. All the goal-tending pain has lead to Ersberg.
Ersberg will be the savior of this team . . . or Ersberg = Huet = Garon = Legace = Dafoe =

BTW, does anyone REALLY believe Bernier is going to help the Kings any more than Huet, Garon, etc.?
I'm not getting my hopes up, but like Naysay and his view of the Ducks' chances for repeating and securing the #1 pick in the '08 draft, I hope to be proven wrong.
I wouldn't disagree too vehemently... except that as a fan I find it more interesting to root the same players from year to year instead of the endless revolving door season after season.
I'd MUCH rather be pulling for this Kings team with Huet in net than this team with who knows who in net next season.
I guess being a Kings fan for so long, I don't know any different...
Goalie stats from the year prior to the off-season trade:
GT Year Tem GP Mins GlA SO GlAA Wn Ls Ti Savs SvPct
RC 0304 LOS 49 2701 113 05 2.51 18 21 06 1085 0.906
CH 0304 LOS 42 2199 089 03 2.43 10 16 10 0872 0.907
MG 0304 MON 19 1003 038 00 2.27 08 06 02 0442 0.921
RC = Roman Cechmanek
CH = Cristobal Huet
MG = Mathieu Garon
That season, many from this board hated Cechmanek, thought Huet was just ok (despite the slight difference between RC & CH's stats) and remember the stellar game Garon had against the Kings.
There was an outcry on the board, something like we hear often: "Why can't the Kings trade for a goalie like that."
So they did.
Hell, I remember at the time of the Cechmanek trade how the consensus was that it was a helluva trade and that the Kings finally had a real goalie!
Back to Garon/Huet . . .
You put Huet in Garon's place and Huet looks like Garon.

Just proves that the problem wasn't the goal-tending.
EXACTLY! And I'm not so sure the problem is goaltending now. A good defense in front of an average goaltender can go a long way. A good defense in front of a great goalie can win the Cup! Huet didn't suck and neither did Garon, it was what was in front of them that sucked. The Kings have given up on too many goaltenders because of the defense in front of them. Kelly Hrudey was a great goaltender with an average defense in front of him and we know what happened with that. As admitted by MC, they didn't give Garon enough of a chance to prove himself and that's why he plays for the Oil right now.
Huet would show small, short flashes of being a capable goaltender, but they were infrequent enough that I, along with most others, thought Garon was going to be an upgrade.
I think Huet may be above average but we need a solid D first. I also feel Huet isn't solid enough to take a team to the finals. Obviously Montreal noticed that or wouldn't have got rid of him right before playoffs and he couldn't get Washington to the next round (that OT goal in game 7 happened because he lost sight of the puck).
Huet was moved in part of a 3-way deal between Ottawa, the Kings and Montreal.
Montreal got Radek Bonk and Huet, the Kings got Garon and the Hab's 3rd, Ottawa got the Kings' 3rd.
It wasnt a three way deal. Ottawa was pretty angry when they found out Bonk was going to MTL. Taylor said that they told Ottawa they were not planning on keeping him, but did not tell them where he was going. If Ottawa had known, they would not have traded him to the Kings.
