I predict a tie with the lightning come seasons end, but does anyone know for a fact the nhl uses the wins/games between/goal differential tie breaker for the draft. I know the NFL just flips a coin for the draft even though they have another method to break playoff seed ties, does the NHL do the same?

1. # of wins
2. If # of wins are equal, then it's the # of points the teams earned against each other
3. If the teams didn't play each other or had the same # of points against each other, it's goal differential

Go to Wolvie's Resources for Armchair Kings GM thread. It's stickied at the top. Post #4 is for all things draft/lottery related. Tells you everything you need to know.

Tie-Breaking Procedures:
At the conclusion of the regular season, the standing of the teams in each Conference shall be determined in accordance with the following priorities in the order listed:

First place in each of the three (3) divisions seeded 1, 2, and 3.

The higher number of points earned by the Club.

The greater number of games won by the Club.

The higher number of points earned in games against each other among two (2) or more Clubs having equal standing under priority (b) and (c) **

The greater differential between goals scored for and against by Clubs having equal standing under priority (d).

What a lame tiebreaker, especially with that fact, which you pointed out, that teams sometimes don't play each other or just once a year.

And goal differential?!? Stupid.

This league has such a hard-on for point for a loss crap, I don't understand why losses aren't a deciding factor before goals scored/allowed.

So, in this case, when two teams have a greater GA than GF, the tiebreaker is the team that has LESS of a differential between GA and GF, right?

Thanx for the breakdown. So it looks like we should sit Ersberg and play beachball. Give Frolov a chance to rest the groin and Let Brownie spend some quality time with that baby of his. It is a lottery and all, but the only goal I want scored from this point on is giving the rookies some more ice time and see if Dallman can pull his head out.

That's a great point, regulation losses should be a deciding factor before goal differential. I never thought about that and, apparently, neither did the NHL.

If teams have the same number of points at the end of the season, with the same number of wins, how can their number of losses be different?

The number would have to be the same. They would have the same number regulation and OT losses. This would be the only other way to match each other in points.
